Discusses a study undertaken to assess the effect of graduate student teaching assistants on undergraduate students' attitudes toward psychology in an introductory psychology laboratory course. Findings indicated that good TAs convey more positive feelings about the labs than do poorer TAs. (DB)

Reports findings of a content analysis of all letters of recommendation received by a sociology department for a given junior-level faculty position. Differences of contents provided for male and female applicants are identified. Finds that in this sample women were not strongly portrayed as committed intellectuals and colleagues. (RH)

Male and female counselors (N=88) viewed videotaped vignettes of two 35-year old women and two 20-year old women who portrayed problems about feared rape, existential anxiety, and choice of college major. Results indicated the two personal-social problems were rated as more serious than vocational problems on all dependent measures. (Author)

Frequency measures were based on the first 30 minutes of audiotaped interviews with clients, taken at the end of prepracticum, during practicum, and at least three months after training. This study was conducted on the Counselor Evaluation Rating Scale (CERS). Ratings on 404 students from approximately 35 different supervisors were factor-analyzed using an oblique solution with rotation to simple loadings. It was concluded that the CERS has generally achieved the purposes intended by its authors. (Author)

In this study of black graduate students no significant difference was found between the two groups on mean graduate grade point average, retention rate, or graduation rate.
