Multiple-choice examinations were given three times each year in a pediatric residency training program at New York Medical College. The test scores correlated highly with subsequent scores on the intraining examination of the American Board of Pediatrics. A comprehensive approach to evaluating pediatric residents is feasible. A simple hypnotic procedure to treat test anxiety is described that was used successfully with medical students and residents at the Wake Forest University Medical Center. A light trace is obtained and then the student is told to take such a hypnotic "journey" the evening prior to the test. (MLW)

The prevalence of anxiety and depression in clinic patients, residents' ability to identify these affects, and accuracy of patients' responses to simple questions about them were investigated at a University of Virginia clinic.
