Peer reviewedJanson, Svante; Vegelius, Jan – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1980
A general discriminant analysis method, based on the E-correlation coefficient concept is introduced, and separates the various subgroups by using Euclidean spaces. The G-analysis, the weighted G analysis and the WHIDD analysis are special cases of the method. (Author/RL)

Peer reviewedLutz, J. Gary – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1979
A specialized vector used to interpret rejected multivariate single sample hypotheses, introduced in an earlier article by the writer (EJ 097 103), is shown here to be equivalent to the vector that would be obtained if discriminant analysis techniques were to be applied to a single sample problem. (Author)

Peer reviewedVegelius, Jan; And Others – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1980
The Weighted H Index Delegate Discriminant Analysis method (WHIDD-analysis) is presented. It is rather similar to Holley's G-analysis, but does not utilize any component analysis and is thus cheaper and simpler to use. The WHIDD-analysis uses the weighted H-index as the E-correlation coefficient. (Author/BW)

Anaki, D.; Faran, Y.; Ben-Shalom, D.; Henik, A. – Journal of Memory and Language, 2005
The mirror effect refers to a phenomenon where the hit rate is higher for low frequency words while the false alarm rate is higher for high frequency distractors. Using a false memory paradigm (Roediger & McDermott, 1995), we examined whether false memory for non-presented lures would be influenced by the lure's familiarity. The results revealed…

Anderson, April – ProQuest LLC, 2009
Prevention of high-risk use of alcohol by college students has been studied for over 20 years. Most prevention methodology has focused on reducing supply to students rather than addressing the root causes that students use alcohol in self-abusive manner. One holistic health approach that addresses the root causes of alcohol abuse promotes the…

Addi-Raccah, Audrey; Ainhoren, Ronit – Teaching and Teacher Education: An International Journal of Research and Studies, 2009
This study probes teachers' attitudes toward parental involvement in schools as a function of four types of school governance as suggested by Bauch and Goldring. Participants of the study included headteachers, chairpersons of parents' committees, and teachers of 11 primary schools in a medium-sized town in Israel. A discriminant analysis found…

Li, Jen-Yi; Bassett, Diane S.; Hutchinson, Susan R. – Journal of Intellectual & Developmental Disability, 2009
Background: Different roles and responsibilities are required of school professionals to facilitate students' successful transition from school to post-school lives. Special educators' involvement in transition services is essential for better post-school outcomes for students with disability. Method: The Transition Involvement Survey with five…

Luyten, Hans; Tymms, Peter; Jones, Paul – School Effectiveness and School Improvement, 2009
The research findings presented in this paper illustrate how the "value added" of schooling can be assessed empirically using cross-sectional data. Application of the regression-discontinuity approach within a multilevel framework produces both an estimate of the absolute effect of 1 year schooling and an estimate of the variation across…

Brown, P. Margaret; Bortoli, Anna; Remine, Maria D.; Othman, Basyariatul – Journal of Research in Special Educational Needs, 2008
The social engagement, social attention skills and social competence of 10 hearing preschoolers and 10 preschoolers with hearing loss were investigated during free play in inclusive oral kindergarten settings using a three-level hierarchical model. When comparing the types of opportunities, at the first level, the children with hearing loss…

Lanktree, Cheryl B.; Gilbert, Alicia M.; Briere, John; Taylor, Nicole; Chen, Karianne; Maida, Carl A.; Saltzman, William R. – Child Abuse & Neglect: The International Journal, 2008
Objective: This study examined the convergent and discriminant validity of two trauma symptom measures, the "Trauma Symptom Checklist for Children" (TSCC) [Briere, J. (1996). Trauma Symptom Checklist for Children (TSCC). Odessa, FL: Psychological Assessment Resources] and the "Trauma Symptom Checklist for Young Children" (TSCYC) [Briere, J.…

Rayfield, John; Compton, Kirsten; Doerfert, David; Fraze, Steven; Akers, Cindy – Journal of Agricultural Education, 2008
This study sought to determine the factors that influenced student decisions to participate in FFA in a rural school and their level of involvement as an FFA member. Data was collected from 2,111 high school students in 41 rural high schools in Arizona, Florida, and Texas. Discriminant analysis identified four factors that influence participation…

Lee, Tae Kyung; LaBrie, Richard A.; Grant, Jon E.; Kim, Suck Won; Shaffer, Howard J. – International Journal of Mental Health and Addiction, 2008
This paper reports the underlying structure of the demographic and clinical characteristics of level 3 (i.e., pathological) Korean casino gamblers. The participants reported their gambling behavior and clinical characteristics known to be associated with gambling problems (e.g., alcohol use problems, eating disorders, depression, anxiety, and…

Zientek, Linda Reichwein; Thompson, Bruce – Educational Researcher, 2009
Correlation matrices and standard deviations are the building blocks of many of the commonly conducted analyses in published research, and AERA and APA reporting standards recommend their inclusion when reporting research results. The authors argue that the inclusion of correlation/covariance matrices, standard deviations, and means can enhance…

Hwang, Dae-Yeop – 2001
Prediction of group membership is the goal of predictive discriminant analysis (PDA) and the accuracy of group classification is the focus of PDA. The purpose of this paper is to provide an overview of how PDA works and how it can be used to answer a variety of research questions. The paper explains what PDA is and why it is important, and it…

Peer reviewedThomas, D. Roland; Zumbo, Bruno D. – Journal of Educational and Behavioral Statistics, 1996
It is argued that instead of using the standardized discriminant coefficients to assess variable importance, the parallel and total discriminant ratio coefficients (DRCs) proposed by D. R. Thomas (1992) should be used, and parallel DRCs should be adopted as the actual importance measures. (SLD)
