Choi, Namok; Fuqua, Dale R.; Newman, Jody L. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 2008
Pedhazur and Tetenbaum speculated that factor structures from self-ratings of the Bem Sex-Role Inventory (BSRI) personality traits would be different from factor structures from desirability ratings of the same traits. To explore this hypothesis, both desirability ratings of BSRI traits (both "for a man" and "for a woman") and…

Richardson, John T. E. – British Journal of Educational Psychology, 2007
Background: Interview-based research has shown that students in higher education hold a number of different conceptions of learning and of themselves as learners. There is debate about whether these conceptions constitute a developmental hierarchy. Aims: This study evaluated the Mental Models section of Vermunt and van Rijswijk's (1988) Inventory…

Taylor, Dianne L. – 1991
As significance testing comes under increasing criticism, some researchers are turning to other indices to evaluate their findings. Included among the alternative options are the interpretation of effect size estimates and the evaluation of sample specificity (invariance testing). Using a hypothetical data set of 64 cases and two predictor…

MERIGOLD, FRANK A. – 1967
TWO FORMS OF A SCALE FOR THE COLLEGE INTEREST INVENTORY THAT WERE INTENDED TO IDENTIFY MALE STUDENTS WHO WOULD DROP OUT OF LIBERAL ARTS COLLEGES WERE DEVELOPED AND TESTED. THE PREDICTIVE VALIDITY OF THE SCALES WAS EVALUATED BY COMPARISON WITH THE "SO,""SC," AND "AC" SCALES OF THE CALIFORNIA PSYCHOLOGICAL INVENTORY…

Fagen, Jeffrey W.; And Others – Child Development, 1987
Sixty-five infants (mean age of 111 days) who failed to complete a two-day operant-conditioning task were compared with a stratified random sample of those who did on measures of infant temperament and several demographic characteristics. A discriminant-function analysis was performed. (Author/BN)

Pyryt, Michael C. – Journal for the Education of the Gifted, 1986
The paper provides an overview of discriminant analysis and illustrates how this technique can maximize the effectiveness and efficiency of procedures for identifying intellectually gifted students. (Author/CL)

Runco, Mark A. – Gifted Child Quarterly, 1986
The project evaluated the discriminant validity of gifted intermediate children's (N=97) divergent thinking test scores with multitrait-multimethod and factor analytic procedures. Results indicated that the indices drawn from the divergent thinking tests lacked discriminant validity in this gifted sample. (Author/CL)

Hovanitz, Christine A.; And Others – Journal of Clinical Psychology, 1985
Evaluated the hypothesis that a response set accounts for relationships between obvious or subtle statements and criteria by assessing the discriminant validity of two Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI) scales subdivided on the obvious-subtle dimension. The full scales appear to possess more discriminant validity than their obvious…

Fraas, John W.; Newman, Isadore – 2003
The purpose of this paper is to assist researchers, practitioners, and graduate students in identifying and addressing key questions related to the task of choosing among the analytic techniques designed to analyze a dichotomized dependent variable with a set of independent variables. The discussion is limited to (1) the analysis of data by the…

Curcio, Ronald P. – Child Study Journal, 1974
In an attempt to further substantiate Bender's throry of maturational lag as a factor in schizophrenia, 72 schizophrenic children, ages 7 to 15 were tested on their ability to make right-left discriminations. The results indicated that the schizophrenic children as a group performed substantially poorer than normal children. (CS)
