Tepper, Kelly; Hoyle, Rick H. – Multivariate Behavioral Research, 1996
Confirmatory factor analysis evaluated three a priori latent variable models of responses to the Need for Uniqueness Scale completed by 552 undergraduates. An oblique three-factor model best accounted for item commonality. Additional analysis suggests a model with loadings on four modestly correlated factors to explain the scale's latent…

Briggs, Nancy E.; MacCallum, Robert C. – Multivariate Behavioral Research, 2003
Examined the relative performance of two commonly used methods of parameter estimation in factor analysis, maximum likelihood (ML) and ordinary least squares (OLS) through simulation. In situations with a moderate amount of error, ML often failed to recover the weak factor while OLS succeeded. Also presented an example using empirical data. (SLD)

Conroy, David E.; Metzler, Jonathan N.; Hofer, Scott M. – Structural Equation Modeling, 2003
Studied the meaning of Performance Failure Appraisal Inventory (PFAI; Conroy and others, 2002) by evaluating the comparability of PFAI factor structure over repeated assessments and the stability of the subscales over relatively brief intervals. Results for 356 college students generally show high stability for PFAI scores in long and short forms.…

Thompson, Bruce; Cook, Colleen; Heath, Fred – Structural Equation Modeling, 2003
Used confirmatory factor analysis to evaluate the score integrity of LibQUALl+, an instrument to measure perceptions of library service quality. Results for 60,027 graduate and undergraduate students suggest that the model implied by LibQUAL is reasonable and invariant across independent samples and fits all three major subgroups of library users.…

Kim, Sooyeon; Brody, Gene H.; Murry, Velma McBride – Journal of Early Adolescence, 2003
Applied confirmatory factor analysis in a test of alternative factor models and measurement invariance across gender groups, using data from the Early Adolescent Temperament Questionnaire focusing on shyness, high-intensity pleasure, activity level, attention, irritability, and fear. Found that factor models based on composite indicators showed…

Moore, Kathleen A.; Mellor, David J. – School Psychology International, 2003
This study aims to ascertain the underlying factor structure of students' social interactions on scores on the Social Interaction Questionnaire (SIQ). Two independent factors emerged from the data: social/popular and confident/studious. There were no gender differences on these factors in the current data. Confirmation of the current factor…

Kacmar, K. Michele; Valle, Matthew – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1997
The dimensionality of the Measure of Ingratiatory Behaviors in Organizational Settings (MIBOS) (K. Kumar and M. Beyerlein, 1991) was studied with data from 203 state government employees. Results do not confirm the factor solution proposed by the measure's creators. Suggestions are offered to improve the psychometric properties of the MIBOS scale.…

Stiles, William B.; And Others – Journal of Counseling Psychology, 1996
Examines the structure and construct validity of a therapists' intentions form. Ten therapists rated their therapeutic intentions following each of 2,305 therapy sessions. Seven conceptually coherent clusters of intentions were identified: treatment context, session structure, affect, obstacles, encouraging change, behavior, and cognition-insight.…

Arce-Ferrer, Alvaro J.; Ketterer, John J. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 2002
Findings for high school students in Mexico (n=3,153 and n=400) administered a career decision making self-efficacy scale show that tailoring the scale with the best etic and emic items neither improved recovery of the factor-structure nor reduced the effects of the extreme-response style variable. (SLD)

Crombach, Marjo J.; Boekaerts, Monique; Voeten, Marinus J. M. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 2003
Studied the factor structure of the On-Line Motivation Questionnaire (M. Boekaerts, 2002) in a sample of 780 Dutch seventh graders. Confirmatory factor analysis revealed that seven of eight presupposed factors could be distinguished empirically. The internal structure appeared invariant over the academic tasks studied. (SLD)

Flora, David B.; Finkel, Eli J.; Foshee, Vangie A. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 2003
Studied the higher order factor structure of a self-control test developed by H. Grasmick and others (1993). Results for 1,966 eighth and ninth graders show that the self-control test may provide more valid measurement of the constructs it was designed to measure than previous research suggested. (SLD)

Field, Lawrence – Adult Education Quarterly, 1991
Rebutting responses by Guglielmino, Long, and McCune to his earlier criticism of the Self-Directed Learning Readiness Scale, Field reviews the effect of homogeneity in the scale's factor structure and of negatively phrased items and concludes that the scale does not measure readiness for self-directed learning. (SK)

Brookings, Jeffrey B.; Bolton, Brian – Journal of Vocational Behavior, 1989
The United States Employment Service Interest Inventory (USES-II), a self-report instrument that measures an individual's relative strength of interests in 12 broad occupational categories, was completed by 732 adult clients at a medical and vocational rehabilitation institution. Results strongly confirmed the 12-scale factor structure of the…

Green, Dianne E.; Walkey, Frank H. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1988
The factor structure of the Maslach Burnout Inventory was analyzed via principal components analysis of data from America (n=469 teachers) and New Zealand (n=244 female nurses). The analysis, which included varimax rotations, indicated that the inventory measures depersonalization, emotional exhaustion, and lack of personal accomplishment. (TJH)

Chen Shyuefee, Agnes; Michael, William B. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1993
Confirmatory maximum likelihood factor analysis determined how accurately each of several hypothesized combinations of first-order and higher-order factors reflecting creativity in the social intelligence of 192 high school students described the covariation in selected submatrixes from the total correlation matrix originally analyzed. Results…
