Etherton, A. R. B. – English Language Teaching Journal, 1977
The uses of error analysis in teaching English as a second language are discussed. Error analysis can pinpoint areas of difficulty for an individual or an entire class. Materials and methods to use in error analysis are detailed, and use of a card file to catalog errors is suggested. (CHK)

Kingma, Johannes; TenVergert, Elisabeth M. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1987
Two studies investigated the functional equivalence of three different scoring systems used to assess the child's ability to understand and carry out multiplicative classification tasks. All three scoring criteria produced reliable and homogeneous tests. Their factor matrices were similar, and the corresponding factor structures were invariant…

Smith, Richard M. – Journal of Educational Measurement, 1987
Partial knowledge was assessed in a multiple choice vocabulary test. Test reliability and concurrent validity were compared using Rasch-based dichotomous and polychotomous scoring models. Results supported the polychtomous scoring model, and moderately supported J. O'Connor's theory of vocabulary acquisition. (Author/GDC)

Benson, Jeri – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1987
This study demonstrated the use of confirmatory factor analysis to investigate the existence of item bias in an affective scale measuring self-concept. Data were collected from three ethnic groups in grade eight. A differential response pattern found across the three groups indicated potential bias in score interpretation. (Author/LMO)

Doromal, Quintin S., Jr.; Creamer, Don G. – Journal of College Student Development, 1988
Investigated certain measurement properties of the Ethical Judgment Scale. Results revealed findings of questionable validity and unacceptably low reliability for the instrument even though three different scoring methods were used in the analysis. (Author)

Norcini, John J. – Journal of Educational Measurement, 1987
Answer keys for physician and teacher licensing examinations were studied. The impact of variability on total errors of measurement was examined for answer keys constructed using the aggregate method. Results indicated that, in some cases, scorers contributed to a sizable reduction in measurement error. (Author/GDC)

Roberts, Dennis M. – Journal of Educational Measurement, 1987
This study examines a score-difference model for the detection of cheating based on the difference between two scores for an examinee: one based on the appropriate scoring key and another based on an alternative, inappropriate key. It argues that the score-difference method could falsely accuse students as cheaters. (Author/JAZ)
