To ensure reliable language data for research there is a need for experiments eliciting acceptability judgments. Experimental data are discussed to show that evaluation of a sentence may be affected by the sentence with which it is paired. The sensitivity of creative thinking measured by the Torrance Tests with an experimenter-induced response set was investigated. Subjects (n=198) were divided into four groups and each was given a unique set of instructions. Forty adolescent subjects were administered the Woodcock Reading Mastery Tests. The Passage Comprehension Test for each subject was rescored using three different ceiling criteria.
