It is proposed that an innovative and interdisciplinary approach to planning education be designed involving a synthesis of the process or interactive skills of community organization with the cognitive and technical skills of city planning. Weaknesses of early social work education programs in gerontology and determinants of social workers' ambivalence are analyzed and a new curriculum framework is proposed that would be sensitive to intergenerational transactions and quality-of-life factors.
