Older students (N=38) responded to a questionnaire examining whether students changed careers as a result of their coursework, students' methods of obtaining new jobs, success of students in their new positions, and effects of age differences. Of 120 educable mentally retarded (EMR) elementary and middle school students who had been dismissed from special education classes four years previously, 50 were not rereferred for further evaluation and 70 were. Among characteristics that appeared to differentiate the groups were grade level and sex. (CL)

Surveyed career services directors (N=154) to determine the nature and extent of burnout. Results showed a low burnout rate for this sample. Possible explanations include a combination of personal characteristics and working environment, although denial is also possible. The costs incurred and tax monies saved through the successful implementation of an ongoing job training and placement program for moderately and severely handicapped workers were analyzed.
