The developmental course of children's automatic extraction of meaning from printed words is recharted by using a Stroop-type recall task. Results confirm that, after a year of practice with reading material, children do automatically extract meaning from a single printed word. (GK)

This study investigated the effects of learner-generated pictures on science learning relative to both a verbal strategy and a control condition, and to determine the role of individual differences. Results revealed weak effects favoring a drawing strategy for males and females, and a holistic strategy for females only. (Author/GK)

Adult females recalled lists of six words, including some plural nouns, presented visually in sequence. A frequent error was to detach the plural from its root.
