Peer reviewedCockcroft, W. E. Lawson – Journal of Chemical Education, 1973
Discusses procedures of using the selective absorption properties of manganese dioxide to prepare a short-lived source from the cerium-144/praseodymium-144 system. (CC)
Descriptors: Chemistry, College Science, Higher Education, Laboratory Experiments
Peer reviewedScience Teacher, 1973
Describes an elective course dealing with chemistry for the consumer. Students investigate consumer products, the chemistry behind these products, and possible ways in which a better understanding of chemistry could help them become more selective consumers. The chemistry of aerosols is a topic given particular attention. (JR)
Descriptors: Chemistry, Consumer Education, Consumer Science, Course Descriptions

Peer reviewedRollino, J. A.; Aronson, S. – Journal of Chemical Education, 1972
A simple experiment is proposed that can provide the student with some insight into the chemical properties of solids. It also demonstrates the relationship between the Gibbs free energy of formation of an ionic solid and the emf of an electrochemical cell. (DF)
