Blatchly, Richard A.; And Others – Journal of Chemical Education, 1989
Described is a microscale chemistry laboratory in which a dipeptide is synthesized from its component amino acids and analyzed using chiral-phase thin-layer chromatography. Experimental procedures, and materials are discussed. Twelve references are listed. (CW)
Descriptors: Biochemistry, Chemical Reactions, College Science, Higher Education
Terry, Ronald J.; And Others – Collegiate Microcomputer, 1989
Describes a computer program designed to enable undergraduate students to apply computer skills for data acquisition and processing in experimental chemistry. An example is given that examines the absorption spectra of conjugated molecules such as carbocyanine dyes, and the free electron model is explained. (six references) (LRW)

Martin, Sheila; Turner, Sheila – Journal of Biological Education, 1988
Reports on a survey which was undertaken to provide an overview of the biology content of a selection of General Certificate of Secondary Education science syllabuses. Lists syllabuses examined and the four themes in terms of which they were analyzed. Concludes that each contained a substantial biology component. (RT)

Purser, Gordon H. – Journal of Chemical Education, 1989
Examined are the illustrations and descriptions of the molecular structure of sulfur dioxide found in selected chemistry textbooks. Inconsistencies and incorrect information are indicated. It is suggested that molecules other than sulfur dioxide be used as examples of molecules for which resonance is important. (CW)
