Peer reviewedWilkes, A. L.; Alred, G. – British Journal of Psychology, 1978
Two experiments are reported in which recall of the same information is compared following different priming passages. In one case the subjects were primed by material that was consistent with the content of the main passage; in a second case, the priming introduced information in conflict with it. It was found that inconsistent priming led to…

Peer reviewedBraver, Sanford L.; Rohrer, Van – Journal of Conflict Resolution, 1978
A laboratory experiment compared the relative effects of observing and participating in a first Prisoner's Dilemma Game (PDG) on subsequent PDG encounters by the original observer and participant. Concludes that vicarious experience is superior to direct experience in producing responses that reduce interpersonal conflict. Available from: Sage…

SaVille, William A. – Research Quarterly, 1977
Descriptors: Exercise (Physiology), Measurement Instruments, Measurement Techniques, Physical Activities
Peer reviewedJacobson, D. M.; Kaplan, B. Z. – American Journal of Physics, 1978
Describes a method for using ferrofluids to study steady-state resonant vibrations at liquid-air interfaces. (SL)
Descriptors: College Science, Energy, Higher Education, Mechanics (Physics)
Peer reviewedAdler, Carl G.; Coulter, Byron L. – American Journal of Physics, 1978
Reviews Galileo's experiments with falling bodies conducted at the Tower of Pisa. Results indicate it is doubtful that he could have obtained the results claimed in the legend. (SL)
Descriptors: College Science, Higher Education, Motion, Physics
Peer reviewedMaclatchy, C. S. – American Journal of Physics, 1977
Describes a quantitative experiment of measuring the characteristics of a cylindrical Langmuir probe and the ion density in the flame plasma of a seeded propane flame. (SL)
Descriptors: College Science, Higher Education, Instruction, Physical Sciences
Peer reviewedDolby, Robyn M.; Sheehan, Peter W. – Journal of Abnormal Psychology, 1977
Two independent studies were conducted to examine the expectancy behavior of unselected hypnotic, task-motivated, and control-imagination subjects on a slide task requiring response to ambiguous visual information. Results showed that hypnotic subjects consistently demonstrated expectancy behavior, whereas nonhypnotic subjects did not. (Editor/RK)
Descriptors: Cognitive Processes, Expectation, Experiments, Hypnosis
Peer reviewedStanovich, Keith E.; Pachella, Robert G. – Journal of Experimental Psychology: Human Perception and Performance, 1977
Three experiments are reported that were designed to delineate the properties of the stimulus encoding stage in reaction time tasks of varying stimulus-response compatibility. (Editor)
Descriptors: Charts, Codification, Diagrams, Experimental Psychology
Wilson, Calvin D. – Teacher, 1976
Help children identify and use two basic elements in the scientific process. (Editor)
Descriptors: Elementary Education, Program Descriptions, Science Education, Science Experiments
Peer reviewedTesser, Abraham; Leone, Christopher – Journal of Experimental Social Psychology, 1977
It was hypothesized that thought would result in greater attitude polarization than distraction and that this effect would be more pronounced with better developed "schemas" (naive theories) for thinking about the attitude object. (Editor)
Descriptors: Attitude Change, Beliefs, Cognitive Processes, Experiments
Peer reviewedMershon, Donald H.; Lembo, Vincent L. – American Journal of Psychology, 1977
Attempts to replicate Gogel's (1972) observations with points of light and examines in addition whether the same results would be obtained if the binocularly nearer object was made visually more massive than the farther object and if the residual oculomotor cues were varied to produce different values of the reference distance. (Author/RK)
Descriptors: Charts, Cues, Distance, Experiments
Peer reviewedHeilbrun, Alfred B., Jr. – Journal of Abnormal Psychology, 1977
Tests three proposed attentional mechanisms as possible behavioral strategies by which schizophrenics could prevent relevant information from registering and considers whether stimulation coming through the visual or the auditory channels is differentially susceptible to motivated attempts to disattend to relevant information. (Author/RK)
Descriptors: Attention, Experiments, Hypothesis Testing, Information Processing
Jahnke, John C.; Nowaczyk, Ronald H. – Journal of Experimental Psychology: Human Learning and Memory, 1977
Seven-digit strings were presented for immediate recall. Before recall, subjects either read or retrieved from memory a single item (response prefix). Results were seen in terms of the sharing of the limited capacity of an active memory system by the memory series, the response prefix, and the operations to retrieve and emit the items. (Editor/RK)
Descriptors: Experimental Psychology, Experiments, Information Processing, Memory
Peer reviewedFoster, N.; And Others – Journal of Chemical Education, 1985
Describes an experiment in which students use ion exchange chromatography to separate a mixture of chloro complexes of transition metal ions and then use spectrophotometry to define qualitatively the efficiency of the ion exchange columns. Background information, materials needed, and procedures used are included. (JN)
Descriptors: Chemistry, Chromatography, College Science, Higher Education
Busch, Phyllis S. – Outdoor Communicator, 1985
Provides directions for basic science experiments which demonstrate the rain cycle, fundamentals of cloud formation, and testing for the presence of acidity in local rainwater. Describes materials required, step-by-step instructions, and discussion topics. (NEC)
Descriptors: Elementary Secondary Education, Environmental Education, Experiential Learning, Learning Activities
