Leavitt, John A.; Bills, Francis A. – Amer J Phys, 1969
The diffraction of a full thermal atomic potassium beam by a single slit was observed. Four experimental diffraction patterns were compared with that predicted by de Brogtie's hypothesis and simple scalar Fresnel diffraction theory. Possible reasons for the differences were discussed. (LC)

Greenaway, A. M.; Trail, L. E. – Journal of Chemical Education, 1983
Describes an experiment in which students: (1) synthesize tris(acetylacetonato)iron(III), tris(diethyldithiocarbamato)iron(III), and chlorobis(diethyldithiocarbmamato)iron(III); (2) are given a sample of potassium hexocyanoferrate(III); and (3) are then asked to measure the room temperature of these samples using the Guoy technique. Background…

Miekely, N.; Roldao, L. A. – Journal of Chemical Education, 1982
Using different supporting electrolytes, the influence of complex-forming equilibria on migration velocities of strontium-90 and yttrium-90 can be demonstrated in this experiment. Includes procedures and materials needed. (SK)

Maloy, J. T. – Journal of Chemical Education, 1983
Voltammetry, the fundamental electrochemical experiment, is the measurement of the current which flows at an electrode as a function of the potential applied to the electrode. Such an experiment is discussed, focusing on factors which influence the shape of the current potential curve. (JN)

Kemble, Ernest D. – Teaching of Psychology, 1983
The continuing erosion of financial support for undergraduate laboratories makes cost an increasingly important factor in the choice of undergraduate animal experiments. Projects employing insect predation by rodents, which require minimal equipment and pose a number of interesting questions about animal behavior, are described. (RM)

Lehman, Thomas A.; Everett, Wayne W. – Journal of Chemical Education, 1982
Describes a set of undergraduate laboratory experiments which provide experience in deuteration and derivatization procedures applied to infrared spectroscopy. Basic skills in vacuum-line technique are also taught while measuring infrared spectra of deuterated solid samples and demonstrating the value of derivatization as an aid to interpreting…

MacCarthy, Patrick; Bowman, Susan J. – Journal of Chemical Education, 1982
Highlights procedures and results of an experiment using atomic absorption spectroscope to illustrate a fundamental chemical concept. The experiment demonstrates the dependence of the solubility product of lead sulfate on ionic strength in the presence of a slight excess of anion. (Author/JN)

Schawlow, Arthur L. – Physics Today, 1982
The monochromaticity, directionality, and intensity of laser light make possible spectroscopic investigations of previously unimagined precision. Several of these investigations and their applications are discussed. (Author/JN)

Cramer, Jerome – American School Board Journal, 1981
Discusses experiments in different school systems in New York and Massachusetts that incorporate Herman T. Epstein's theory of brain development. Many of the programs are aimed at helping teachers identify student cognitive levels and adopt techniques for reaching children at different levels. (WD)
