Waring, Gene – 1976
Designed for individualized use in an applied physics course in postsecondary vocational-technical education, this series of ten learning modules is equivalent to the content of a five-credit hour class in automotive technology or diesel technology. Almost all the modules contain technological application in the form of laboratory experiments or…

Tant, Carl – 1993
This book provides laboratory experiments to enhance any food science/botany curriculum. Chapter 1, "Introduction," presents a survey of the techniques used in plant biotechnology laboratory procedures. Chapter 2, "Micronutrition," discusses media and nutritional requirements for tissue culture studies. Chapter 3, "Sterile Seeds," focuses on the…

White, Larry – 1995
This book contains 12 simple experiments through which students can learn about gravity and its implications. Some of the topics included are weight, weightlessness, artificial gravity, the pull of gravity on different shapes, center of gravity, the universal law of gravity, and balancing. Experiments include: finding the balancing point; weighing…

Doherty, Paul; Rathjen, Don – 1995
This book contains scaled-down versions of Exploratorium exhibits that teachers can make using common, inexpensive, easily available materials. Each topic begins with a drawing of the original exhibit on the museum floor, a photograph of the scaled-down version which contains an introduction to the exhibit, a list of materials needed with…

Noble, Tracy; And Others – 1995
Graphs without a time axis, such as velocity-versus-position graphs, offer interesting possibilities for exploring graphing and motion. Relations depicted by these graphs are not limited to functions. Interviews with a high school student named Olivia, who uses a motion detector to create such graphs, indicate that she uses thought experiments as…

Sneider, Cary I. – 1989
The concept of controlled experimentation is a skill that all students leaving high school should master. Teachers often attempt to find exciting and fun methods to expose students to this valuable skill. This science activity guide allows students to construct model rockets in an attempt to improve their abilities to conduct controlled…

Schwenz, Richard W., Ed.; Moore, Robert J., Ed. – 1993
Many teachers and other educators have expressed a concern regarding the lack of student interest in many of the traditional science courses. Concerns have also been expressed by teachers of their dissatisfaction with much of the lecture material and the laboratory exercises in some science classes. To help rectify this problem a collaborative…

Wartski, Bert; Wartski, Lynn Marie – 1994
This document contains 13 low budget labs, demonstrations, and activities to be used in the biology classroom. Each activity has a teacher preparation section which states the purpose of each lab, some basic information, a list of materials and what they do, and how to prep the different solutions and chemicals. All labs are designed for a…

Peer reviewedHawkins, M. D.; And Others – Education in Chemistry, 1975
Describes several oscillating chemical reactions which can be used in undergraduate chemistry laboratories. In one such reaction, ferroin oscillates from red (reducing solution) to blue (oxidizing solution) for about an hour at a frequency which can readily be shown to depend on such factors as the temperature, type of solvent, and concentration…

Peer reviewedGreen, Mark M.; And Others – Journal of Chemical Education, 1975
A survey of 22 popular organic chemistry textbooks showed that only four correctly stated that of the two components of starch, amylopectin is the water-soluble, and amylose is the water-insoluble. (MLH)

Obler, Jeffrey – Teaching Political Science, 1976
Description of a social contract experiment, inspired by John Raul's attempt to develop and support basic principles of justice, that was added to a comparative social policy course. (ND)

Stillings, Neil A. – Journal of Verbal Learning and Verbal Behavior, 1975
A theory of comprehension in verification tasks is developed from a general conception of language comprehension. Models are developed for a task involving transfer verbs "borrow" and "loan" and the possession verb "have." Models and theoretical framework are superior in some respects to constituent comparison and conversion models. (CHK)
