The Future Role of the International Assembly: What Is Its Responsibility to Contribute to a More Humane Future?
Jing A. Williams
Journal of International Social Studies, v15 n1 p59-75 2025
This paper theorizes the future role of the International Assembly as an advocate of human rights education. Studies have shown that the teaching of human rights does not take preference among social studies and global educators (Barton, 2019; Quennerstedt, 2022). One of the most unknown violations of women's rights has been occurring in the U.S. camptowns in South Korea. The camptowns were established during the Korean War (1950-1953) with the approval of the South Korean government and the U.S. military. This article first describes the history of camptowns in South Korea and explains why they violate women's rights. Next, it offers teaching strategies to effectively teach about human rights. Finally, it points out the future role of the International Assembly in addressing human rights violations.
