Sunathong, Surintorn; Schumacker, Randall E.; Beyerlein, Michael M. – Journal of Applied Measurement, 2000
Studied five factors that can affect the equating of scores from two tests onto a common score scale through the simulation and equating of 4,860 item data sets. Findings indicate three statistically significant two-way interactions for common item length and test length, item difficulty standard deviation and item distribution type, and item…

Freiermuth, Mark R. – Simulation & Gaming, 2002
Considers online Internet chatting as a means to resolve simulation tasks in lieu of face-to-face negotiation and suggests that online chatting extends linguistic opportunities for participation in small-group settings while retaining the interactive qualities of spoken conversation. Concludes that language learners who are normally reluctant to…

Baker, Frank B. – Applied Psychological Measurement, 1990
The equating of results from the PC-BILOG computer program to an underlying metric was studied through simulation when a two-parameter item response theory model was used. Results are discussed in terms of the identification problem and implications for test equating. (SLD)

Moore, Sulyn Elliot; Perkins, William H. – Journal of Speech and Hearing Disorders, 1990
Eighteen adult listeners assessed whether stuttering samples were authentic or simulated. Results support the concepts that the production of stuttered and nonstuttered speech disruptions are experienced as being qualitatively different; only stutterers can validly recognize the difference, and only when it occurs; stuttering is a…

Hammer-Higgins, Paula; Atwood, Virginia A. – Career Development Quarterly, 1989
Informs counselors of barriers to career achievement for women who choose nontraditional careers. Offers a simulation game, with management as the example, as a psychoeducational intervention strategy or preventive counseling model. Notes that The Management Game is based on empirical and descriptive research. Game directions; chance, situation,…

Weidner, Laura E. – Instructor, 1989
A large class that must share one computer can still get the benefits of adventure/simulation software if students work in small groups. Teamwork stimulates sharing and cooperation. The importance of planning, useful peripherals, follow-up activities, and product information are included in this article. (IAH)

Reise, Steve P.; Yu, Jiayuan – Journal of Educational Measurement, 1990
Parameter recovery in the graded-response model was investigated using the MULTILOG computer program under default conditions. Results from 36 simulated data sets suggest that at least 500 examinees are needed to achieve adequate calibration under the graded model. Sample size had little influence on the true ability parameter's recovery. (SLD)

Pajak, Edward; Glickman, Carl D. – American Educational Research Journal, 1989
Two studies using simulated supervisory conferences were designed to determine whether teachers and supervisors discriminate among types of direct supervisory communication: (1) information only; (2) information with suggestions; and (3) information with directives. Results with 30 teachers and 133 supervisors are discussed in terms of…

Hendrickson, John – Training, 1990
Describes Texas Instruments' (TI) attempt to capture the key skills and personal characteristics of outstanding manufacturing supervisors in a competency model derived from research on high performers. The result was a one-day simulation and assessment center that looks and feels like a day on the shop floor. (JOW)

Ottenbacher, Kenneth J. – Journal of Research and Development in Education, 1989
Simulation studies were used to explore the relationship between Type I error rates (statistical conclusion validity) and multiple testing in data sets exhibiting varying degrees of independence. Implications for reporting and interpreting educational data are discussed, and methods of determining or reducing Type I error incidence are presented.…

Thatcher, Donald; Robinson, June – Simulation/Games for Learning, 1990
Discusses learning systems and learning difficulties, and describes the use of a simulation to help professionals better understand people with learning difficulties. The General Systems Theory and a systems approach are discussed, the role of debriefing is considered, and theoretical perspectives on the development of learning disabilities are…

Brook, George A.; Luft, Edward R. – Journal of Geography, 1988
Describes a model for generating solution features, or karren, on gypsum blocks within 24-48 hours in order to illustrate terrain-forming processes. This method for replicating landforms provides hands-on experience for students, and can be varied to demonstrate a number of principles. (LS)
