Sendelbaugh, Joseph W. – American Annals of the Deaf, 1980
A study was conducted comparing three methods that could be used to modify driver simulator films for hearing impaired high school students. A modification using graphics indicating various driving commands with the use of some captioning proved to be the most effective of the methods studied. (Author/DLS)

Szafran, Robert F.; Mandolini, Ann F. – Simulation and Games, 1980
Describes a study designed to determine the effect of participation in a simulation game (SIMSOC: Simulated Society) on two types of cognitive knowledge: test performance and concept recognition ability. (Author/LLS)
Descriptors: Cognitive Measurement, Educational Games, Higher Education, Objective Tests

Petersen, Chris; And Others – Social Behavior and Personality, 1978
Literature in simulations and games reveals a lack of research in the area of effects of simulations on personal characteristics of participants. Cross-cultural simulation scores yielded a significant effect for creative ability and revealed significant interaction of creative ability and sex. (Author)
Descriptors: College Students, Cross Cultural Studies, Group Dynamics, Individual Characteristics
Hoffert, Linda; And Others – Academic Therapy, 1979
A workshop designed to give parents of learning disabled children a better understanding of their children's experiences and perceptions consisted of simulations illustrating input difficulties in five areas: visual functioning, tactile discrimination, directionality and fine motor problems, concept formation, and reading. (CL)

Bleau, Barbara Lee – Higher Education, 1981
Planning model literature from its earliest use to the present, emphasizing the generalized resource allocation models, is summarized. Several examples of categories of models are cited. An in-depth analysis of six resource allocation models (e.g., CAMPUS Simulation Model, TRADES Financial Planning Model) is presented. (Author/MLW)
Descriptors: College Planning, Computer Oriented Programs, Costs, Higher Education
Rossi, Tom – Instructor, 1981
Describes a stock market investing project for fifth graders. (SJL)
Descriptors: Economics Education, Elementary Education, Elementary School Mathematics, Grade 5
Yee, Robert – Teaching Political Science, 1981
Describes a simulation based on strategic arms limitation talks. The simulation was successfully used in a freshman-level introductory political science course to help students understand the importance of negotiating and understanding other points of view in international relations. (DB)
Descriptors: Educational Objectives, Foreign Policy, Higher Education, International Relations

Sigal, J. J.; And Others – International Journal of Family Therapy, 1980
Therapists responded to a videotaped simulated family as if they were treating it. Positive relationships were found between the ratings of expertise based on the coding system, and between independent ratings of the treated families' satisfaction with treatment and the status of the presenting symptoms six months after termination. (Author)

Cohn, Elchanan; And Others – Journal of Education Finance, 1980
Describes and provides a simulation of an input-output, goal-programing technique that uses efficiency criteria as prerequisites for state aid payments and provides for the sharing of managerial know-how between the state and local school districts. (Author/IRT)
Descriptors: Elementary Secondary Education, Equalization Aid, Input Output Analysis, Mathematical Models
Christiansen, Kenneth – Simulation/Games for Learning, 1979
Describes and analyzes a run of the roughest and most basic version of the ABZ GAMES, a family of games for teaching about social group interaction in situations where oppression is a key element. Adaptations for a migrant farm version and a women's rights version are noted. (Author/CMV)
Descriptors: Educational Games, Feminism, Group Behavior, Group Dynamics

Claverie, Maurice J.; Dupas, Alain P. – Impact of Science on Society, 1979
Models of global energy demand, a lower-growth-rate model developed at Case Western Reserve University and the H5 model of the Conservation Committee of the World Energy Conference, assess the features of decentralized and centralized electricity generation in the years 2000 and 2025. (BT)
Descriptors: Development, Electricity, Energy, Futures (of Society)

Revelle, William – Multivariate Behavioral Research, 1979
Hierarchical cluster analysis is shown to be an effective method for forming scales from sets of items. Comparisons with factor analytic techniques suggest that hierarchical analysis is superior in some respects for scale construction. (Author/JKS)
Descriptors: Cluster Analysis, Factor Analysis, Item Analysis, Rating Scales

Crosbie, Paul V. – Social Psychology Quarterly, 1979
Six major theories of status inconsistency were tested in a small-groups setting. When inconsistency variables were taken alone, all six theories were relatively strong predictors of inconsistency effects. When added to original status rankings, inconsistency variables became uniformly weak predictors. (Author/RD)
Descriptors: Group Dynamics, Interpersonal Relationship, Questionnaires, Simulation
Gardner, Martin – Scientific American, 1979
Discusses some mathematical games concerning the packing of squares. (HM)
Descriptors: Educational Games, Game Theory, Games, Mathematical Applications
