Fitzpatrick, Michael J.; Howard, James A. – Journal of Computer-Based Instruction, 1977
Describes one approach to supplying engineering and computer science educators with an economical portable digital systems laboratory centered around microprocessors. Expansion of the microcomputer based laboratory concept to include Learning Resource Aided Instruction (LRAI) systems is explored. (Author)
Descriptors: Computer Assisted Instruction, Computer Oriented Programs, Computer Science Education, Computers
Postlethwait, S. N. – NSPI Journal, 1978
Discusses how the audio-tutorial system originated, how it is currently implemented at Purdue University (independent study sessions, general assembly sessions, and small assembly sessions), and some factors which may determine the effectiveness of its application. (VT)
Descriptors: Audiovisual Aids, Biology, Higher Education, Independent Study
Peer reviewedHampton, Carolyn H.; Hampton, Carol D. – Science and Children, 1978
Presents guidelines for the construction and maintenance of a life science culture center with mobile and stationary units. (CP)
Descriptors: Animal Facilities, Biological Sciences, Biology, Educational Media
Peer reviewedRenfrew, Malcolm M., Ed. – Journal of Chemical Education, 1978
Describes a chemical laboratory safety course presented at Western Michigan University. (SL)
Descriptors: Chemistry, College Science, Course Descriptions, Curriculum
Peer reviewedGilbert, George L., Ed. – Journal of Chemical Education, 1978
Presents details of demonstrations illustrating cathodic protection using a photovoltaic source and optical rotation. (SL)
Descriptors: Chemistry, College Science, Demonstrations (Educational), Higher Education
Peer reviewedEllison, Herbert R. – Journal of Chemical Education, 1978
Indicates some of the information that may be obtained from a binary solid-liquid phase equilibria experiment and a method to write a computer program that will plot an ideal phase diagram to which the experimental results may be compared. (Author/CP)
Descriptors: Chemical Reactions, Chemistry, College Science, Computer Programs
Peer reviewedGlaros, George – Journal of Chemical Education, 1978
Describes the laboratory procedure suitable for an introductory organic chemistry procedure. (CP)
Descriptors: Chemistry, College Science, Higher Education, Instructional Materials
Peer reviewedShaw, D. E. – American Journal of Physics, 1978
Discusses an experiment involving a linear chain of falling dominoes. The time for a chain of N equally spaced dominoes to fall is measured and a plot is made between the time and N. The experimental data are compared with the predictions of theory. (Author/GA)
Descriptors: College Science, Game Theory, Higher Education, Instructional Materials
Verification of Compton Collision and Klein-Nishina Formulas--An Undergraduate Laboratory Experiment
Peer reviewedSinghal, R. P.; Burns, A. J. – American Journal of Physics, 1978
Describes an experiment to verify the Compton collision formula and the angular dependance of the Klein-Nishina formula. Equipment used is a 1-mCi(137)Cs source, 2x2 in. NaI detector and a multichannel analyzer. Suitable for honor undergraduates. (Author/GA)
Descriptors: College Science, Higher Education, Instructional Materials, Laboratory Experiments
Peer reviewedAagaard, Stanley A.; Crumlish, Mary Jane – Science Activities, 1978
Described is the use of molecular model kits in high school biology class and gives a laboratory unit for studying molecular structures of fats, proteins, and carbohydrates. (BB)
Descriptors: Biochemistry, Biology, Instruction, Laboratory Procedures
Peer reviewedMoskovits, M.; Derewlany, L. – Education in Chemistry, 1978
Presents an experiment for a physical chemistry course designed expecially for students majoring in the life sciences. (SL)
Descriptors: Biological Sciences, Chemistry, College Science, Higher Education
Peer reviewedPfaender, Frederic K.; And Others – Environmental Science and Technology, 1978
A direct aqueous injection (DAI) technique was compared with the purge method for chloroform measurement in drinking water. The DAI method gave consistently higher values for chloroform than the purge method. The results indicated the need for caution in the interpretation of chloroform and other trihalomethane values generated by DAI. (Author/MA)
Descriptors: Chemical Analysis, Environmental Education, Laboratory Techniques, Natural Resources
Karasek, F. W. – Research/Development, 1978
Describes the development of the ion scattering spectrometry (ISS) analytical instruments. (SL)
Descriptors: Chemical Analysis, College Science, Equipment, Laboratory Equipment
Miller, P. J.; And Others – Elements: Translating Theory Into Practice, 1978
A laboratory teaching experience (L.T.E.) was designed to focus on three teaching behaviors. It was recognized that a behavioral approach to teaching simplified its complexity by isolating specific teaching behaviors. Discusses the development and evaluation of the laboratory teaching experience. (Author/RK)
Descriptors: Elementary Education, Laboratory Training, Practicums, Program Evaluation
Weinstein, Marian – Mathematics Teaching, 1976
Use of graphs in studying greatest common divisors, least common multiples, and other concepts can illustrate patterns related to the definitions of these concepts. (SD)
Descriptors: Graphs, Instruction, Laboratory Procedures, Mathematics Education
