Batty, Michael; And Others – Journal of Geography in Higher Education, 1985
Described is a project that involved undergraduate geography students in developing a model of the accessibility of the pre-school population in Cardiff (England) to child care clinics. Programing skills were acquired through spatial modelling. Networks of mini- and micro-computers were used. (Author/RM)

Zietsman, Aletta I.; Hewson, Peter W. – Journal of Research in Science Teaching, 1986
This study used a microcomputer program which diagnosed and remediated an alternative conception of velocity. Results show computer simulations are credible representations of reality and that the remedial part of the program produces significant conceptual changes in students holding the alternative conception. (Author/JN)

Pope, James A.; Cross, Edward M. – CAUSE/EFFECT, 1984
The results of a follow-up evaluation of a decision support system installed 5 years ago at Guilford College are reported. Changes in the system, resulting procedures, and the organization are described. (Author/MLW)

Risley, John S. – Physics Teacher, 1984
Reviews courseware (Apple II) providing laboratory simulations in atomic physics. Although material is not user-friendly and requires some background, the animations are good representations of electron mass, Thompson e/m, Millikan oil-drop, and mass spectrometer. Recommended for classroom demonstration purposes at high school or introductory…

Weaver, W. Timothy – Phi Delta Kappan, 1984
Today's shortage of talented teachers--possibly a cyclical phenomenon--results largely from low teacher salaries, many survey indicate; moreover, a computer simulation confirms, recent institutional decisions aggravate the problem. Consequently, reforms that focus exclusively on teacher training practices and/or certification must ultimately fail.…

Brinkman, Paul T. – New Directions for Institutional Research, 1984
Computer-based information systems have evolved from emphasizing data processing to providing full and flexible support for management. They have moved from providing mere data to providing a medium for representing knowledge wherein managers can analyze data, formulate ideas, structure arguments, and building models. (Author/MLW)

Davison, Joyce G. – Curriculum Review, 1984
Discusses use of simulation/role playing to help students understand unfamiliar, controversial situations and practice decision making in a nonthreatening context. Essential steps in simulation/role playing, four actual simulation/role playing situations, and their learning outcomes are described, and information sources for further information on…

Baldwin, Lee; And Others – Journal of Experimental Education, 1984
Within-class regression is a method, developed in this paper, of comparing a large number of nonequivalent groups. This study indicated that within-class regression was a less biased method of data analysis and will yield more accurate estimates of treatment effects than analysis of covariance. (PN)
