van der Burg, Eeke; de Leeuw, Jan – 1988
A non-linear version of redundancy analysis is introduced. The technique is called REDUNDALS. It is implemented within the computer program for canonical correlation analysis called CANALS. The REDUNDALS algorithm is of an alternating least square (ALS) type. The technique is defined as minimization of a squared distance between criterion…

Easton, John Q.; Engelhard, George, Jr. – 1981
Elementary school attendance and achievement data were collected from the records of a random sample of 1,200 Chicago students. There were complete longitudinal data sets for 333 students in kindergarten through eighth grade. Student absence was highest in kindergarten and decreased until fourth grade; absence rates were approximately constant…

Soares, Louise M.; Soares, Anthony T. – 1981
In order to refine further the process of measuring self-perceptions, nine different self-scales of the Affective Perception Inventory (API)--descriptive of academic settings--were administered to students in grades one through twelve, their peers, and their teachers. Within a multitrait-multimethod formulation, the scores yielded high internal…

Smith, Philip L.; Kane, Michael – 1981
The aims of this study were: (1) to review and discuss alternatives for evaluating members of a set of scores which may be interpreted independently as contributing to a composite score, or as a member of a profile and (2) to examine multivariate generalizability theory, as suggested by Joe and Woodward, applied to student course/instructor…

Huberty, Carl J.; Smith, Jerry D. – 1980
Linear classification functions (LCFs) arise in a predictive discriminant analysis for the purpose of classifying experimental units into criterion groups. The relative contribution of the response variables to classification accuracy may be based on LCF-variable correlations for each group. It is proved that, if the raw response measures are…

Saul, Peter N. – Organization and Administrative Sciences, 1977
Available from the Comparative Administration Research Institute, Kent State University, Kent, Ohio 44242; $15.00 annually. (IRT)
Descriptors: Job Satisfaction, Models, Multivariate Analysis, Organizational Effectiveness

Sobel, Milton; Kelemen, Eve – Journal of Educational Statistics, 1984
The statistical consequences of giving a student more than one achievement test to diagnose learning disabilities (LD) are discussed. Ranking and selection tables are used to find (1) the proportion of LD students as a function of cut-off point and (2) the cut-off point as a function of the expected proportion of LD students. (Author/BW)

Schneider, Wolfgang; And Others – International Journal of Behavioral Development, 1987
Studied the influence of intelligence, self-concept, and causal attributions on metamemory and the metamemory-memory behavior relationship in elementary school children. Results indicated that intelligence had an impact on metamemory in all age groups; and that metamemory remains an important predictor of memory behavior. (Author/RWB)
Descriptors: Attribution Theory, Cognitive Ability, Elementary Education, Elementary School Students

Johnson, Roger T.; And Others – Journal of Educational Psychology, 1985
The impacts of computer-assisted cooperative, competitive, and individualistic instruction were compared on student achievement and attitudes. Results indicated that computer-assisted cooperative instruction promoted greater quantity and quality of daily achievement; more successful problem solving; and higher performance on factual recognition,…

Bredemeier, Brenda Jo; And Others – Journal of Moral Education, 1986
Reports a field experiment designed to explore the effectiveness of social learning and structural development prescriptions for moral pedagogy in a summer sports camp. Eighty-four children, aged five to seven years were taught by two trained instructors for a six-week period. Statistically significant results were not obtained between the…

Berger, Martijn P. F. – Journal of Educational Statistics, 1986
The problem of choosing the most efficient design (longitudinal, mixed longitudinal, or cross-sectional) to estimate polynomial parameters for time-structured data in educational and psychological research is considered. The comparison of efficiencies shows that the assumed degree of the polynomial is crucial for selecting the most efficient…

McDonald, Roderick P. – Interchange, 1986
Within a framework of general theory governing relations between models for structural analysis, the research activities of General Research On Understanding Psychometrics (GROUP) of the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education are discussed. (MT)
Descriptors: Analysis of Covariance, Factor Analysis, Latent Trait Theory, Linear Programing

Miller, Donald M.; And Others – Multivariate Behavioral Research, 1986
Two techniques compose a new methodology for studying certain classes of qualitative information: the F-sort task for data collection and latent partition analysis for data summarization. A detailed presentation is given of its application to a study of teacher's views of facilitating student learning in the classroom. (Author/LMO)
Descriptors: Classification, Concept Formation, Data Collection, Elementary Secondary Education

Busch, Judith W. – American Educational Research Journal, 1985
Mentoring relationships from the mentors' point of view were surveyed. Using O'Neill's theory of mentoring, a Likert scale instrument was developed. Results indicated that mentors feel mentoring is important to them as well as to their students. In a multivariate multiple regression, age was a significant predictor of mentoring score. (Author/DWH)

Stevens, Marcia – American Educational Research Journal, 1985
Alternative secondary schools were placed in separate groups based on patterns of organizational variables including goals, instructional features, size, sources of funding, and target school population. Distinct patterns of student perceptions of their school learning environment seem to be associated with identifiable patters of organizational…
