Johnson, William L.; And Others – Journal of Experimental Education, 1987
Factor analysis was performed on the Charles F. Kettering (CFK) scale (a measure of school climate). The multivariate analysis of responses by 1,163 students, teachers, and administrators indicated that new subscales should be designed to improve overall scale validity. (TJH)
Descriptors: Administrator Attitudes, Educational Environment, Factor Analysis, High Schools

Raymond, Mark R. – Evaluation and the Health Professions, 1986
Several methods for dealing with incomplete multivariate data and ways to examine the effectiveness of these methods are discussed. It is concluded that pairwise and listwise deletions are among the least effective methods in terms of approximating the results, whereas estimates based on correlational procedures generally produce the most accurate…

Schaffer, Lemuel C.; Hannafin, Michael J. – Educational Communication and Technology, 1986
Studies the effects of varying levels of interactivity on the learning rate of 98 high school students using four increasingly interactive versions of computer-based interactive video instruction. Students are grouped by ability levels and results are compared for recall rate, instructional time, and acquisition rate. Twenty-two references are…

Pair versus Individual Work on the Acquisition of Concepts in a Computer-Based Instructional Lesson.
Carrier, Carol A.; Sales, Gregory C. – Journal of Computer-Based Instruction, 1987
Describes a study of 36 college juniors at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis to contrast how well students learn new concepts from working with a partner versus working individually on a computer-based lesson. Highlights include types of feedback chosen and an analysis of verbal interactions. (Author/LRW)
Descriptors: Comparative Analysis, Computer Assisted Instruction, Feedback, Higher Education

Rosenbaum, Paul R. – Journal of Educational Statistics, 1986
Using data from the High School and Beyond, this article presents statistical procedures to estimate the effect of dropping out of high school on cognitive achievement test scores. Each sampled dropout is matched to a student remaining in the same school. Methods for addressing the possible omission of covariates are described. (BS)
Descriptors: Achievement Tests, Analysis of Covariance, Dropouts, Effect Size

Cranton, Patricia A.; Smith, Ronald A. – American Educational Research Journal, 1986
Effects of course characteristics on student ratings in a variety of instructional situations were examined. Data were collected from 1,777 classes in five departments at all levels of instruction over three years. Overall results confirmed generally accepted trends, but in some departments at particular levels of instruction, relationships varied…

Muth, K. Denise – Journal of Educational Psychology, 1984
This study added extraneous information and increased syntactical complexity to determine the relative importance of computational and reading abilities in solving arithmetic word problems. Analyzing tests of 200 sixth graders indicated the combined abilities accounted for 54 percent of the variance in solution accuracy. (BS)
Descriptors: Computation, Difficulty Level, Grade 6, Intermediate Grades

Halpin, Glennelle; And Others – Journal of Experimental Education, 1985
Multivariate and bivariate analyses of teachers' responses showed that locus of control was related to teacher stress. As hypothesized, teachers who felt they were in control reported less stress in job related situations than did those who did not feel influential in their educational environment. (Author/DWH)
Descriptors: Age Differences, Elementary Secondary Education, Locus of Control, Multivariate Analysis

McColskey, Wendy, H.; And Others – Educational Evaluation and Policy Analysis, 1985
Secondary school principals in Ohio were surveyed regarding their reliance on formal and informal information for decision making and potential predictors of such reliance. Data supported the existence of a number of dimensions that distinguish principals who are greater information users from lesser users. (Author/LMO)
Descriptors: Decision Making, Dogmatism, Elementary Secondary Education, Evaluation Utilization

Chizmar, John F.; Zak, Thomas A. – Economics of Education Review, 1984
This article views learning and attitude formation within the context of joint production. Tables show summary statistics and estimated marginal products and rates for each output. These estimates reveal trade-offs within the learning process that differ for men and women. (PB)
Descriptors: Achievement Rating, Cognitive Measurement, Cognitive Style, Economics Education
Veenker, C. Harold; Torabi, Mohammad R. – Health Education (Washington D.C.), 1983
Researchers evaluated the construct validity of attitude measures containing feeling, belief, and intention-to-act components. Evidence strongly suggests that treating these three factors as unidimensional concepts is inadequate for measuring health attitudes--a multidimensional approach is needed. (PP)
Descriptors: Attitude Measures, Factor Analysis, Health Education, Higher Education
Saparniene, Diana; Merkys, Gediminas; Saparnis, Gintaras – Online Submission, 2005
Purpose: The purpose of this article is to identify and define the existing students' statistical types by their attitudes towards a computer (emotional-motivational relationship with a computer) and to disclose the connection with factual computer literacy using multidimensional statistical methods. Methodology: The empirical-experimental part of…

Learning and Talking about Politics: Gender Dynamics, Interaction and Success in NFL Model Congress.
Rosenthal, Cindy Simon; Rosenthal, James A. – 2003
Certain kinds of extracurricular activities develop interpersonal, leadership, and participatory skills that are important to citizenship and politics. In this research, the focus is on simulated legislative debate and the question is how such activities might contribute to persistent gender differences observed in elite political participation in…
