This article discusses the lexical suffixes of Bella Coola, a native language of British Columbia. Evidence of a syntactic nature is presented to support the classification of the suffixes into 4 groups: anatomical, nonanatomical, metonymic, and classifier. (CLK)

This study attempted to assess ways in which a specifically designed course on homosexuality including seven groups of gay speakers affected attitudes of 18 advanced college students. The results indicated a significant change ina positive direction as predicted. These results are discussed in terms of Weinberg's theory of homophobia. (Author)

Defines the difference between lexical and propositive nomination, and examines their interrelation. Clarification of syntactic problems allowed for by distinguishing nominative and communicative aspects of a sentence is discussed, and the relationship of semantic syntax to traditional syntactic theory is also discussed. Twenty-three subjects drew deductions from ten different pairs of conversationally conveyed requests, of which the first conveyed a positive request, the second, a negative. Some evidence shows the listener constructs the literal meaning before the conveyed meaning. (CK)
