Lehmann, Donald R.; Gupta, Sunil – Applied Psychological Measurement, 1989
Path Analysis of Covariance Matrix (PACM) is described as a way to separately estimate measurement and structural models using standard least squares procedures. PACM was empirically compared to simultaneous maximum likelihood estimation and use of the LISREL computer program, and its advantages are identified. (SLD)

Games, Paul A. – Journal of Experimental Education, 1990
The logical flaw of using the methods of path analysis and structural equation modeling to make causative conclusions is demonstrated. A proper evaluation of the role of investigation versus experimentation is cited in the work of W. G. Cochran as explicated by D. R. Rubin (1983). (TJH)

Jeffreys, Bradford J.; Camp, William G. – Journal of Vocational Education Research, 1988
The authors used path analysis procedures to construct and test a causal model of participation in vocational student organizations. Of the eight variables investigated, seven had significant effects. Sophomore year participation was the best indicator of senior year involvement as a participant or a leader. (Author/CH)

Kavale, Kenneth A.; Nye, Chad – Exceptionality: A Research Journal, 1991
Two causal models are presented to describe influences on the performance of students with learning disabilities. The first model associates reading and math with three domains: neuropsychological, linguistic, and social-behavioral. The second model involved relationships among selected individual variables and suggests that learning disability is…

Chen, Yau-Jane; Willits, Fern K. – Journal of Distance Education, 1998
Investigating 121 learners' experiences with videoconferencing, this study used path analysis to examine the postulates of Moore's Theory of Transactional Distance. A major focus was estimating the effects of the dimensions of dialog, structure, learner autonomy, and transactional distance--the constituent concepts of Moore's theory--on learning…

Ashby, Jeffrey S.; Rice, Kenneth G. – Journal of Counseling & Development, 2002
The researchers in this study examined the association between adaptive and maladaptive dimensions of perfectionism and self-esteem. Confirmatory factor analysis and structural equations modeling were used to develop and test a model derived from theoretical links between perfectionism and self-esteem. Path models revealed that adaptive…

Nathan, Liz; Stackhouse, Joy; Goulandris, Nata; Snowling, Margaret J. – Journal of Speech, Language, and Hearing Research, 2004
This article presents a longitudinal study of the early literacy development of 47 children with speech difficulties from ages 4 to 7 years. Of these children, 19 with specific speech difficulties were compared with 19 children with speech and language difficulties and 19 normally developing controls. The risk of literacy difficulties was greater…

Meyer, Susan – Social Work Research, 2004
The purpose of this study was to examine how on organization's response to conflict affected the amount and intensity of future conflict and negative work outcomes. In this cross-sectional study of 3,374 government service workers, bivariate correlations and multiple regressions revealed associations between managers' conflict-handling style (CHS)…

Greene, Barbara A.; Miller, Raymond B.; Crowson, H. Michael; Duke, Bryan L.; Akey, Kristine L. – Contemporary Educational Psychology, 2004
Path analysis was used to test predictions of a model explaining the impact of students' perceptions of classroom structures (tasks, autonomy support and mastery and evaluation) on their self-efficacy, perceptions of the instrumentality of class work, and their achievement goals in a particular classroom setting. Additionally, the impact of…

Mercer, Sterett H.; DeRosier, Melissa E. – Journal of School Psychology, 2008
This study assessed the importance of teacher preference of individual students, relative to peer rejection and student aggression, as an independent predictor of children's emotional adjustment and grades. First, a longitudinal, cross-lagged path analysis was conducted to determine the patterns of influence among teacher preference, peer…

Speirs Neumeister, Kristie L.; Finch, Holmes – Gifted Child Quarterly, 2006
The purpose of the present study was to create and test a model that (a) illustrated variables influencing the development of perfectionism, and (b) demonstrated how different types of perfectionism may influence the achievement goals of high-ability students. Using a multiple groups path analysis, the researchers found that parenting style was…

Bonito, Joseph A. – Human Communication Research, 2006
Contrary to previous work in which task-related judgments are hypothesized to predict participation in small groups, the current study assumes that participation is both an outcome of and an influence on judgments of task-related ability. In this study, the association between task-relevant judgments and participation was examined at two points in…

Davison, Kirsten Krahnstoever; Downs, Danielle Symons; Birch, Leann L. – Research Quarterly for Exercise and Sport, 2006
Girls' perceived athletic competence and parental support of physical activity across the ages of 9 to 11 years were examined as predictors of girls' physical activity at age 11 years. Participants were 174 girls and their mothers and fathers who completed questionnaires when the girls were ages 9 and 11 years. Two alternative temporal pathways…

Ladd, Gary W. – Child Development, 2006
Findings yielded a comprehensive portrait of the predictive relations among children's aggressive or withdrawn behaviors, peer rejection, and psychological maladjustment across the 5-12 age period. Examination of peer rejection in different variable contexts and across repeated intervals throughout childhood revealed differences in the timing,…

Davis, Kelly Cue; Norris, Jeanette; George, William H.; Martell, Joel; Heiman, Julia R. – Journal of Interpersonal Violence, 2006
Previous research findings indicate that women suffer a variety of detrimental effects from exposure to violent pornography. This study used an experimental paradigm to examine the effects of a moderate alcohol dose and alcohol expectancies on women's acute reactions to a violent pornographic stimulus. A community sample of female social drinkers…
