Peer reviewedLong, G. G.; And Others – Journal of Chemical Education, 1979
This experiment is suitable for illustrating synthesis-analysis and isopolyanion chemistry at the freshman level or at a more advanced level. (BB)
Descriptors: Chemical Reactions, Chemistry, College Science, Higher Education
Peer reviewedRiley, Gary F.; Eberhardt, William H. – Journal of Chemical Education, 1979
In this general chemistry experiment students calculate changes in free energy of formation of inorganic salts from the free energy of formation of ions. Then they test the conclusions of their calculations by mixing solutions of the ions. (BB)
Descriptors: Chemical Reactions, Chemistry, College Science, Higher Education
Peer reviewedKidd, Richard; Ardini, James – American Journal of Physics, 1979
Presents a laboratory experiment that was developed to acquaint physics students with field-effect transistor characteristics and circuits. Computer-drawn curves supplementing student laboratory exercises can be generated to provide more permanent, usable data than those taken from a curve tracer. (HM)
Descriptors: College Science, Computer Programs, Electronics, Higher Education
Peer reviewedEaton, Bruce G., Ed. – American Journal of Physics, 1979
Presents brief notes on new ideas, equipment, techniques, or materials of interest to teachers of physics. An apparatus that demonstrates the uniform acceleration of gravity, and a simple way to demonstrate nuclear blocking patterns of crystal lattices are among new ideas presented. (HM)
Descriptors: College Science, Higher Education, Instructional Materials, Laboratory Equipment
Peer reviewedKartalopoulos, Stamatios V. – Journal of College Science Teaching, 1979
Describes a laboratory demonstration that can be used to convert an analog quantity into frequency, which can then be converted into a binary measure using either an oscilloscope or a frequency counter. (MA)
Descriptors: Analog Computers, Digital Computers, Electric Circuits, Electronics
Peer reviewedPickering, M.; Monts, D. L. – Journal of College Science Teaching, 1979
Describes a study correlating observational test question scores and lab notebook evaluations. Results indicate that, while there is no correlation between those two factors, there are problems with evaluating notebooks objectively. (MA)
Descriptors: Academic Achievement, Chemistry, Classroom Observation Techniques, Educational Research
Peer reviewedBlatt, Rita G. – Journal of Chemical Education, 1979
This is a college-level general chemistry experiment. (BB)
Descriptors: Chemical Reactions, Chemistry, College Science, Higher Education
Peer reviewedLennox, John E. – American Biology Teacher, 1977
Suspensions of 20 different cultures were grown on appropriate media, then pipetted into sterile anhydrous silica gel. Silica gel cultures after incubation and refrigerated storage were tested for viability. Results showed little mutation, low replication, low contamination, minimal expenses, and survival up to two years. (CS)
Descriptors: Biology, College Science, Culturing Techniques, Higher Education
Peer reviewedOsborne, Roger – Journal of Research in Science Teaching, 1976
Describes how student responses to 26 bipolar adjectives describing laboratory studies are used at a New Zealand university to modify the content of laboratory experiments in physics. (MLH)
Descriptors: Attitude Measures, College Science, Curriculum Evaluation, Educational Research
Peer reviewedFine, Leonard W.; And Others – Journal of Chemical Education, 1977
Discusses the use of lap-dissolve projection to give students pre-laboratory instruction on an upcoming experiment. In this technique, two slide projectors are operated alternately so that one visual image fades away while the next appears on the same screen area. (MLH)
Descriptors: Chemistry, College Science, Higher Education, Instruction
Woltmann, Joachim – Englisch, 1976
"Reforms" have created large schools, which make new problems for the teacher. The following are briefly discussed: preparation of teaching material, procuring supplementary visual and auditory material, constructing tests, using the language laboratory, constructing a preparatory course, projects, and individualized instruction. (Text is in…
Descriptors: Audiovisual Aids, Course Organization, English (Second Language), Language Instruction
Peer reviewedPoller, R. C.; Seeley, M. E. – Education in Chemistry, 1977
Describes the implementation of a university chemistry department's learning aids laboratory, including costs, basic equipment needed, and the services offered by the lab, such as audiotapes, filmloops, television facilities, and programmed texts. (MLH)
Descriptors: Audiovisual Centers, Chemistry, College Science, Educational Facilities
Peer reviewedAnderson, Wayne – Teaching of Psychology, 1977
The need to set up classroom conditions under which students can interact with each other about course material is discussed. Micro-labs are suggested as a means of serving this need. (Author/DB)
Descriptors: Classroom Communication, Communication Skills, Course Evaluation, Higher Education
Haynes, LeRoy W.; Powell, David L. – Teacher, 1977
Changes, reactions, deductions. Five simple experiments add new skills and excitement to science. (Editor)
Descriptors: Chemical Reactions, Chemistry, Elementary School Science, Elementary School Students
Durousseau, Isabelle; And Others – Francais dans le Monde, 1977
Discusses the use of language laboratories for the teaching of French in Denmark. (Text is in French.) (CLK)
Descriptors: Audiovisual Aids, French, Higher Education, Language Aids
