Baca, Glenn; Lewis, Dennis A. – Journal of Chemical Education, 1978
This experiment uses a nine-chambered plexiglas unit to facilitate rapid construction of galvanic cells and measurement of cell voltage. Using this procedure, a pair of students can construct and obtain the cell voltages of two precipitation cells, three concentration cells, and six redox cells in 30-40 minutes. (BB)

Millikan, Roger C. – Journal of Chemical Education, 1978
The observation of soap bubbles in a beaker of carbon dioxide gas helps students to feel the pleasure that comes from understanding nature, from applying that understanding to real problems, and from making unexpected discoveries that yield to analysis. (Author/BB)
Descriptors: Chemical Equilibrium, Chemical Reactions, Chemistry, Higher Education
Rushing, Charles W. – Florida Vocational Journal, 1978
Tracing the ten-year development and operation of a training center for Florida's law enforcement officers, this article discusses the construction plans, the new training center, the professional staff, and the current programs and objectives. (BM)

Richter, Marilyn Groer – Teacher, 1978
The author taught in an open-space classroom at Argyle Junior High in Montgomery County, Maryland. Here is a candid look at the inner workings of a room without walls. (Editor/RK)

Driver, H. S. T. – American Journal of Physics, 1978
Describes an experiment for the measurement of the reflectances of dielectric surface. The experiment is analyzed in terms of the Stokes parameters and the Mueller calculus, and Malus law is derived. The experiment also provides an introduction to the properties of real linear polarizers. (Author/GA)

Cohen, D. K.; Potts, J. E. – American Journal of Physics, 1978
Describes an experiment in which a point source of light, when viewed through a cylindrical tube having reflecting inner walls, appears as a series of sharply defined rings, due to the multiple reflections from the inner walls of the tube. ( GA)

Ouseph, P. J.; Mostovych, Andrew – American Journal of Physics, 1978
Experiments to measure range, range straggling, stopping power, and energy straggling of alpha particles are discussed in this article. Commercially available equipment with simple modifications is used for these measurements. (Author/GA)

Potter, Larry; Brown, Bruce – Journal of Chemical Education, 1978
Reports on a computer batch program that will not only perform routine grading using several grading algorithms, but will also calculate various statistical measures by which the class performance can be evaluated and cumulative data collected. ( Author/CP)

Alexandrakis, George C. – American Journal of Physics, 1978
Describes an experiment for estimating molecular size and Avogadro's number. Uses the diffusion length of iodine in air at 100 degrees Celsius as a function of time, and the change in volume of a small quantity of carbon dioxide as it goes from the solid to the gaseous state. (GA)
