Peer reviewedShaw, Mark R. – Western Journal of Speech Communication, 1983
Examines the taken-for-granted assumptions students make about selection interviews and how these assumptions affect the interview process. (PD)
Descriptors: College Students, Communication Research, Employment Interviews, Higher Education
Peer reviewedEdney, Julian J.; Bell, Paul A. – Small Group Behavior, 1984
Conducted two studies in which subjects (N=216) faced the dilemma of how to harvest resources from a shared pool when faced with external catastrophies and given opportunities to steal. Results showed that tying the individual's outcome to the rest of the group is good for the group. (LLL)

Basaille, Jean-Paul – Francais dans le Monde, 1983
A class activity for any instructional level or age, involving production of a radio program, is described. These stages are suggested, with variations for real or simulated broadcast: sensitization to the radio broadcast phenomenon, choice of program type, preparation of broadcast, production, reworking, and further use of the tape recordings.…

Peer reviewedPark, David – Journal of Biological Education, 1983
Describes a sequence of five computer programs (listings for Apple II available from author) on tactic responses (oriented movement of a cell, cell group, or whole organism in reponse to stimuli). The simulation programs are useful in helping students examine mechanisms at work in real organisms. (JN)
Descriptors: Biology, College Science, Computer Programs, Computer Simulation
Masterton, Pauline – Technological Horizons in Education, 1984
Examines educational technology (EdTech) in Florida using the future-is-here-now technique, suggesting transposition of teaching/learning, rezoning research, and elasticizing experience. Scenarios are provided to illustrate computer-enhanced collaborative learning, electronic messaging (teleconferencing) and simulation or interactive gaming. (JN)
Descriptors: Computer Assisted Instruction, Computer Oriented Programs, Computer Simulation, Educational Technology
Peer reviewedLumsden, Keith G.; Scott, Alex – Economics, 1983
Research on using computers in teaching economics in Great Britain has led to the conclusion that they are most useful for simulating complex systems and providing the means to analyze data and not so useful for providing feedback on learning. A nationwide competition for secondary students is also discussed. (IS)

Peer reviewedMcNergney, Robert F.; And Others – Journal of Educational Research, 1983
This article describes a set of Preactive Decision Exercises (PreDEx) that can be used to evaluate teachers' planning abilities. The exercises present, through simulations, typical situations in which teachers must make planning decisions. The exercises were given to students entering a preservice teacher education program. (Author/PP)

Peer reviewedPalva, Ilmari P.; Korhonen, Vieno – Journal of Medical Education, 1976
The outcome of a simulated clinical problem (drug-induced agranulocytosis) was compared with the outcome of similar cases in real medical service. The total performance of 100 sixth-year medical students at the end of their clerkship in internal medicine resulted in a mortality of 10 percent in the simulation exercise. (Editor/LBH)
Descriptors: Academic Achievement, Clinical Diagnosis, Higher Education, Internal Medicine
Peer reviewedTomlinson, Ralph – Journal of Biological Education, 1976
Three examples of simulation exercises which require no special apparatus or materials are described. All are intended to be used with senior classes in secondary education but can be adapted for use with other groups. A list of requirements for setting up each simulation is appended. (Author/EB)

Bauer, Malcolm; Williamson, David M.; Steinberg, Linda S.; Mislevy, Robert J.; Behrens, John T. – 2001
In computer-based simulations, students must bring a wide range of relevant knowledge, skills, and abilities to bear jointly as they solve meaningful problems in a learning domain. To function effectively as an assessment, a simulation system must additionally be able to evoke and interpret observable evidence about targeted knowledge in a manner…

Benoit, Ty – 2002
When archaeologists dig up the artifacts of ancient civilizations, they make discoveries and attempt to find out what life was like for ancient people. Students in the classroom explore the civilizations of the ancient world attempting to answer questions about how people lived thousands of years ago. In this activity for grade 6, students, in…

This study investigated specific conditions under which out-of-scale information improves measurement precision and the factors that influence the degree of reliability gains and the amount of bias induced in the reported scores when out-of-scale information is used. In-scale information is information that an item provides for a composite trait…
