Peer reviewedKornhauser, Aleksandra – European Journal of Science Education, 1979
Presents summaries and evaluations of some 250 recent researches and developmental studies in chemical education. Identifies existing trends in the various research areas, and suggests future research needs and priorities. (GA)

Peer reviewedBaker, Eva L. – Studies in Educational Evaluation, 1977
It is difficult to base evaluations on concepts irrelevant to state policy making. Evaluation of a multiproject program requires both time and differentiation of method. Data from the California Early Childhood Program illustrate process variables for program component analysis, and research questions for intraprogram comparison. (CP)
Descriptors: Educational Change, Educational Policy, Evaluation Criteria, Evaluation Methods
Peer reviewedFincher, Cameron – New Directions for Institutional Research, 1978
Criterion development is seen as the perennial issue in evaluation research. No other problem persists in the same way or makes the college or university more vulnerable to outside criticism. The need for subjective agreement among users and interpreters and for giving evidence of validity regarding eventual educational outcomes is noted.…

Archbold, A.; Nisbet, J. – Scottish Educational Studies, 1977
Attitudes of 134 parents of children from 10 rural schools threatened with closure, and 56 parents of children from seven schools recently closed, were assessed by interview. Most parents opposed closure, and most gave educational reasons for their attitudes. (Author)

Peer reviewedOgletree, Earl J.; Rodriquez, Margarita – Illinois School Research and Development, 1978
Surveys the attitudes of Mexican parents toward school discipline of primary-level children in terms of the following questions: 1) will parents accept the use of corporal punishment in schools?, 2) what form of disciplinary measure will they accept or recommend?, 3) if parents accept corporal punishment, who will be the school disciplinarian, and…

Peer reviewedAlgozzine, Bob – Journal of Experimental Education, 1977
Adams and Cohen (1974) demonstrated that facial attractiveness was a salient factor in differential student-teacher interactions. This research investigates further the interaction between teachers and children perceived to be attractive or unattractive by those teachers. It was hypothesized that attractive children would exhibit more "positive,"…

Micek, Sidney S.; Cooper, Edward M. – New Directions for Community Colleges, 1978
Conceptualizes an approach for assessing community impact of community-based community college programs which considers the multiple communities which are potentially impacted; the educational, economic, sociocultural, political and technological impacts which are possible; the different ways of obtaining community-impact data; and the need for…

Peer reviewedKelly, Jeffrey A.; Worell, Leonard – Journal of Research in Personality, 1978
This research investigates the relationship between parent behaviors, subject personality characteristics, and response to temptation among college students. The temptation situation involves an opportunity to falsify a test score to gain course credit when the perceived likelihood of detection is low. Findings suggest that males and females may…

Bentler, Peter M.; Woodward, J. Arthur – Evaluation Quarterly, 1978
The Head Start data analyzed by Magidson (1977) were reanalyzed using Joreskog's (1976) LISREL computer program methodology. The hypothesis that the Head Start program produced zero effects on the cognitive abilities of its participants was evaluated by several Chi Square tests. In all cases, the null hypothesis could not be rejected. (Author/CTM)
Descriptors: Analysis of Covariance, Computer Programs, Evaluation Methods, Mathematical Models
Magidson, Jay – Evaluation Quarterly, 1978
In a reply to the previous article (TM 503 435), Magidson disparages the arbitrary application of the .05 significance level to these data, responds to several assertions, and provides additional data in support of his original article showing positive effects for Project Head Start. (CTM)
Descriptors: Analysis of Covariance, Computer Programs, Evaluation Methods, Mathematical Models
Peer reviewedChizmar, John F.; And Others – Journal of Economic Education, 1977
Describes a study of the impact of innovative teaching techniques on students' cognitive achievement. After adjusting for differences in characteristics between users and nonusers, the effect of computer-assisted instruction on student achievement was found to be negative but small. (Author/AV)

(Author/RK)
