Examines the validity of a Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory code type interpretive program. Results showed the system was highly rated by three independent experienced clinicians. Children aged 7 to 14 years were administered a computerized version of the Raven's Coloured Progressive Matrices test. Computer and traditional version performance was found to be similar in terms of total mean score, correlation with the WISC-R, Raven's subscale intercorrelations, and Raven's total mean score composition. To test the reliability of children's reporting as compared with that of their mothers, a highly structured psychiatric diagnostic interview was used with 307 Ss, ages 6 through 16. To distinguish disturbed children from normal children, similar structured diagnostic interviews about the child were given by different interviewers to a cohort of 307 mother-child pairs (children 6 to 16 years old). Children referred for psychological evaluation had been administered the Rorschach test and the WISC-R, among other tests, for diagnostic purposes. Significant relationships were found between groups for some variables after which prediction formulas were developed for estimates and use of verbal terminology associated with IQ levels. (Author)
