Russell, Dolores E. – Special Libraries, 1974
An explanation of the regulation of forms, reports, correspondence, files, and records centers as required for the systematic control of active and inactive records. (JB)
Descriptors: Filing, Information Retrieval, Information Storage, Recordkeeping

Feldman, Robert S. – History Teacher, 1973
Detailed examples illustrate one of the possible applications for using the computer punch card for information retrieval in qualitative historical research, suggesting a time-saving method of organization for research data. (SM)
Descriptors: Data Collection, History, Information Retrieval, Information Storage
Farradane, J.; And Others – Information Storage and Retrieval, 1973
The use of a structured system of storing information, particularly relational indexing, can lead to situations in which items would not be retrieved due to technicalities of the system. To overcome such problems a study was made of condensations with the aim of providing a series of rules to apply. (4 references) (Author/SJ)
Descriptors: Indexing, Information Retrieval, Information Storage, Relevance (Information Retrieval)

Capps, Marie T. – Special Libraries, 1972
The problems of storage and maintenance which confront the map librarian are discussed. Included are the causes of map damage and deterioration, methods of detection and correction, and suggestions of further measures for optimum preservation. Useful guides on preservation and maintenance are cited. (7 references) (Author/NH)
Descriptors: Guides, Information Storage, Library Materials, Maintenance
Stanfel, Larry E. – Information Storage and Retrieval, 1973
A review is given of doubly-chained trees for information retrieval. It is shown that the chaining steps may be of different cost depending upon whether the step is vertical or horizontal. The problem of constructing an optimal retrieval tree is formulated mathematically and a solution procedure given. (5 references) (Author/KE)
Descriptors: Decision Making, Information Retrieval, Information Storage, Mathematical Models
Knudson, Donald R.; Marcus, Richard S. – Journal of Micrographics, 1972
The authors envision the library of the future as part of a large network of dedicated computers, each with specialized data bases and inter-computer communications for accessing other data bases. (4 references) (Author)
Descriptors: Computers, Information Storage, Information Systems, Libraries

Huckaby, Sarah Ann Scott – Journal of Documentation, 1972
The adaptability of the theory of integrative levels to a generalised classification scheme is questioned in that its hypotheses have not been adequately developed and confirmed. It is suggested that not enough cognisance has been taken of twentieth century relativistic thinking in which space-time is treated as a continuum. (14 references)…
Descriptors: Classification, Information Processing, Information Retrieval, Information Storage
Lawson, Billy R. – Audiovisual Instr, 1970
Descriptors: Cataloging, Information Storage, Instructional Materials, Library Technical Processes
Whimbey, Arthur E.; Ryan, Stuart F. – J Educ Psychol, 1969
Research supported in part by a grant from the U.S. Office of Education, Bureau of Research. Reprints from: Arthur Whimbey, Dept of Psychology, California State College, 25800 Hillary St., Hayward, California 94542.
Descriptors: Information Storage, Memory, Problem Solving, Psychological Testing
Heath, Ted – Videodisc/Videotext, 1981
Discusses consumer and industrial videodisc systems for information storage including cost, technology utilized, formats, and features. Reflective and transmissive laser optical systems are described, as well as the grooved and grooveless mechanical systems. Tables containing product data are included. (JJD)
Descriptors: Equipment Evaluation, Information Storage, Lasers, Purchasing

Voos, Henry – Journal of the American Society for Information Science, 1980
Highlights the advantages of using holography for information storage, character recognition, file security systems, and other applications. (FM)
Descriptors: Bibliographies, Character Recognition, Holography, Information Storage
Kuersten, Joan – Our Children, 2001
Presents tips to help PTA leaders manage the paperwork that comes across their desks, explaining the importance of making a firm commitment to two rules of paper management: (1) deal with each item as soon as it lands on one's desk, and (2) make a decision to do one of four things with the paper (act on it, pass it on, file it, or toss it). (SM)
Descriptors: Elementary Secondary Education, Filing, Information Storage, Printed Materials

Piazza, Nick J.; Baruth, Nancy E. – Journal of Counseling and Development, 1990
Asserts that, although the need to keep client records is clear, there is little information available as to how to construct client record. Presents guidelines for what data should be contained in intake summaries, along with assessments, treatment plans, case notes, and other supplemental materials. (Author/NB)
Descriptors: Case Records, Counseling, Data Collection, Information Storage

Bourke, Thomas A. – Microform Review, 1989
Reviews the status of photostats and microfilm at the New York Public Library, including evaluations of the demand for each and the relationship between the two forms during the 1930s, 1940s, and 1950s. Reasons why the two forms continue to coexist--even though it was predicted that microfilm would replace photostats--are discussed. (24…

Beecher, Henry – Wilson Library Bulletin, 1989
Presents a basic orientation to the functions and capabilities of disk operating systems (DOS), aimed at the nontechnically oriented user of IBM personal computers and compatible microcomputers. Areas discussed include booting up, the use of floppy and hard disks, file storage and manipulation, and directories. Further readings are provided. (CLB)
