Khattab, Ali-Maher; Michael, William B. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1986
Based on reanalyses of correlational data obtained from the University of Southern California Aptitudes Research Project, this investigation examined the extent to which two higher order factors of semantic content and symbolic content form Guilford's structure-of-intellect model reflected distinct constructs. (Author/LMO)

Anderson, James C.; Gerbing, David W. – Psychometrika, 1984
This study of maximum likelihood confirmatory factor analysis found effects of practical significance due to sample size, the number of indicators per factor, and the number of factors for Joreskog and Sorbom's (1981) goodness-of-fit index (GFI), GFI adjusted for degrees of freedom, and the root mean square residual. Birenbaum, Menucha; Montag, Itzhak – Multivariate Behavioral Research, 1986
The purpose of this study was to examine the location of Zukerman's sensation seeking (SS) construct in the personality domain as measured by Cattell's 16 personality factors (16PF). Results of the factor analytic study indicated that the global construct of sensation seeking is related to the broad personality factor of independence. (Author/LMO)

McDonald, Roderick P. – Interchange, 1986
Within a framework of general theory governing relations between models for structural analysis, the research activities of General Research On Understanding Psychometrics (GROUP) of the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education are discussed. (MT)

de Vries, John – Journal of Multilingual and Multicultural Development, 1984
Discusses and evaluates currently accepted theories of ethnic or linguistic identity and maintenance. Lists factors which have a bearing on the long-term fate of a minority. Analyzes the data for the European linguistic minorities using the data matrix reported by Erik Allardt in his monograph on ethnic revival in Western European societies. (SED)

Gold, Yvonne – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1984
The responses of 462 teachers, scored separately for frequency and intensity to 22 Maslach Burnout Inventory items, were intercorrelated and subjected to a principal factors solution followed by a varimax rotation. Empirical support was obtained for the hypothosized dimensions: emotional exhaustion; depersonalization; and personal accomplishment.

Herman, James M.; And Others – Journal of Medical Education, 1985
A study assessed (1) the validity of the Bowman Gray School of Medicine evaluation instrument regarding the occurrence of halo effects and (2) possible relationships between the faculty's evaluations of the residents and the residents' cognitive knowledge and productivity. (MLW)

Abelson, A. Geoffrey – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1986
A job satisfaction questionnaire was developed, and 485 special educators of the mentally retarded, learning disabled, emotionally disturbed, and severely handicapped responded to its dissemination. Factor analysis resulted in seven factors. Analysis of variance indicated differences between groups on factors dealing with Behavior Management…

Wunderlich, Richard A. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1985
In response to research questioning the utility of the Jesness Inventory in predicting and differentiating delinquency, this study isolated the personality dimensions of 422 adjudicated, noninstitutionalized adolescents by item level factor analysis. The resulting three factors--Mistrust, Social Pessimism, and Hypersensitivity--were compared with…

Etezadi-Amoli, Jamshid; McDonald, Roderick P. – Psychometrika, 1983
Nonlinear common factor models with polynomial regression functions, including interaction terms, are fitted by simultaneously estimating the factor loadings and common factor scores, using maximum likelihood and least squares methods. A Monte Carlo study gives support to a conjecture about the form of the distribution of the likelihood ratio…

Kline, P; Cooper, C. – British Journal of Educational Psychology, 1984
Test scores from Comprehensive Ability Battery (CAB) administered to 103 British students were subjected to oblique factor analysis. Six factors were extracted which fitted closely those described by Cattell and colleagues, thus supporting their claims concerning structure of abilities and utility of this American instrument in Great Britain. (CMG)

Hanna, Gila – Journal of Educational Measurement, 1984
The validity of a comparison of mean test scores for two groups and of a longitudinal comparison of means within each group is assessed. Using LISREL, factor analyses are used to test the hypotheses of similar factor patterns, equal units of measurement, and equal measurement accuracy between groups and across time. (Author/DWH)

Hon, Rachel Yuk Hung; Yeung, Alexander Seeshing – Online Submission, 2005
Educators and researchers have suggested that positive relations with their parents would have significant impacts on children's attitudes and behaviours. The present study has two purposes: (a) to examine whether parent-child relations would influence low achievers' liking of school, and (b) to investigate whether low achievers' parent-child…

Okoro, Daniel; Miller, Larry E. – 1994
A study examined the factors related to learning occurring in an adult education program. A purposeful sample of Ohio counties and 151 participants in a specific 1993-1993 adult education program who self-selected to participate in the study was used. A descriptive ex post facto study design was used. Pretests-posttests were administered to…

Camilli, Gregory; Wang, Ming-mei; Fesq, Jaqueline – 1992
The Law School Admission Test (LSAT) was examined to see if the items on a form could be divided into different subgroups in which items looked statistically similar within the subgroups but statistically different between subgroups. Of such subgrouping can be detected, it is likely that the subgroups of items measure different abilities, and the…
