Peer reviewedFischer, Donald G.; And Others – Perceptual and Motor Skills, 1982
EEG correlates of intellectual functioning in academically handicapped and talented adolescents were investigated. Data from Ertl's Brainwave Analyzer were factor analyzed and used to predict verbal, numerical, reasoning, and spatial abilities and reading and mathematics achievement. Correlational patterns differed by group. Implications for…
Descriptors: Academic Achievement, Adolescents, Biomedical Equipment, Correlation
Peer reviewedHojat, Mohammadreza – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1982
The psychometric characteristics of the revised UCLA Loneliness Scale in Iranian groups correlated significantly with measures of other conceptually-related variables such as depression, anxiety, and neuroticism. Factorial structure supported the multidimensionality of the scale. (Author/PN)
Descriptors: College Students, Factor Analysis, Foreign Students, Higher Education
Peer reviewedBluen, Stephen D.; Barling, Julian – Journal of Cross-Cultural Psychology, 1983
Examines the factor structure of the Survey of Work Values for a sample of White South African males. States that number of factors and item composition of factors differed from results of previous research due to cultural differences between South African and American samples. (CMG)
Descriptors: Cross Cultural Studies, Cultural Differences, Cultural Influences, Factor Analysis
Peer reviewedHale, Robert L. – Journal of School Psychology, 1983
The 10 subtests comprising the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children--Revised (WISC-R) were independently factor analyzed for middle (N=107) and low (N=158) socioeconomic status children. After testing for equivalence of covariance matrices between the two groups, coefficients of congruence between factors were calculated. These coefficients…

Peer reviewedKearney, Maureen J.; Kearney, James F. – Journal of Clinical Psychology, 1983
Investigated sex differences on the Adult Nowicki-Strickland Internal-External Control Scale using factor analysis of student scores (N=194). Three factors emerged for females and five for males. Comparison with other studies shows item consistency on the first two factors which were the same for both sexes. (Author/JAC)
Descriptors: Attribution Theory, College Students, Factor Analysis, Helplessness
Peer reviewedKnapp-Lee, Lisa; Michael, William B. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1983
This study (1) provided evidence concerning the construct validity of scales based on the clusters found in a revised, professional-level form of the California Occupational Preference System Interest Inventory and (2) examined the degree of internal consistency of the 16 newly devised subscales. (Author/PN)
Descriptors: Career Planning, Cluster Grouping, Correlation, Factor Analysis
Peer reviewedPiotrowski, Chris – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1983
The present study compared the factor structures obtained when the same data were factor analyzed: (1) for the total sample (463 fifth grade students) and by sex for collapsed concepts, and (2) by individual concept for the total sample by sex, and for internal and external locus of control groups. (Author/PN)
Descriptors: Factor Analysis, Factor Structure, Individual Differences, Intermediate Grades
Rogers, Weaver B., Jr.; Westbrook, Bert W. – Measurement and Evaluation in Guidance, 1983
Used a modified multitrait-multimethod matrix approach to examine the construct validity of the Career Decision Scale for 175 male college students. The results of the investigation provided evidence supporting the construct validity of the Career Decision Scale. (Author/JAC)
Descriptors: Career Choice, Cognitive Ability, College Students, Counseling Techniques
Peer reviewedBledsoe, Joseph C. – Perceptual and Motor Skills, 1983
A factor analysis of responses from 44 female teachers to the Bem Sex-Role Inventory yielded two factors, Masculinity and Femininity accounting for 20.7 and 16.2 percent, respectively, of the common variance. Twenty-eight of 40 items performed as hypothesized while 12 items were not associated with masculine or feminine roles. (Author/RD)
Descriptors: Androgyny, Behavior Rating Scales, Factor Analysis, Factor Structure
Peer reviewedSmart, John C.; Elton, Charles F. – Research in Higher Education, 1982
The empirical validity of the Biglan model of academic disciplines is supported. Examples are provided to illustrate how the systematic use of this model could enhance the quality of research on university faculty members and the academic administration of colleges. (Author/MLW)
Descriptors: College Administration, College Faculty, Educational Research, Factor Analysis
Peer reviewedSmall, Arnold C.; And Others – Teaching of Psychology, 1982
Student emotional state at the end of the semester is related to instructor ratings, students receiving higher grades rate the course and instructor more favorably, and items that were orthogonal in prior factor analysis are highly intercorrelated and change significantly in magnitude. (AM)
Descriptors: Educational Research, Emotional Response, Factor Analysis, Grades (Scholastic)
Peer reviewedRobertson, Donald U.; Hyde, Janet S. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1982
The 10 subscales of the Family Environment Scale did not emerge as 10 factors of the family environment. Seven new subscales were proposed: conflict, group cohesion, structure, religion, activities, verbal-intellectual orientation, and protestant ethic. The first four factors replicated well; the last three factors replicated moderately well.…

Peer reviewedWright, Dan; Dappen, Leon – Journal of School Psychology, 1982
Scores on the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children-Revised (WISC-R) and the Wide Range Achievement Test (WRAT) from 250 children were factor analyzed. Results offered support for interpreting WISC-R scores in terms of verbal and performance scales and for interpreting WRAT scores as a separate achievement factor. (Author/HLM)
Descriptors: Achievement Tests, Elementary Education, Elementary School Students, Factor Analysis
Peer reviewedBoake, Corwin; Salmon, Paul G. – Journal of Clinical Psychology, 1983
Factor analyzed the Family Environment Scale (FES) subscale scores of 204 families and correlated them with family demographic characteristics. The obtained factor structure showed two major factors similar to "control" and "acceptance-rejection" dimensions in previous research. Results support the FES as part of multimethod…

Peer reviewedCody, Michael J.; And Others – Human Communication Research, 1983
Tested a seven-factor model of situation perception to develop a set of valid and reliable situation perception factors for use in compliance-gaining research. (Factors included personal benefits, intimacy, rights, resistance, dominance, situation apprehension, and relational consequences.) Found that the model fit the data well and was superior…
