Muscott, Howard S.; Gifford, Timothy – Education and Treatment of Children, 1994
This article describes virtual reality (VR) technology and discusses its potential application to the teaching of social skills to children and youth with behavior disorders through the use of interactive role plays. Limitations of the current technology and difficulties inherent in modeling simulations of human behavior are noted, as are…

Li, Ronald C.; And Others – American Journal of Pharmaceutical Education, 1995
Microcomputer software that simulates drug-concentration time profiles based on user-assigned pharmacokinetic parameters such as central volume of distribution, elimination rate constant, absorption rate constant, dosing regimens, and compartmental transfer rate constants is described. The software is recommended for use in undergraduate…

Stevens, Lizbeth J.; Bliss, Lynn S. – Journal of Speech and Hearing Research, 1995
This study explored the conflict resolution ability of 30 children with specific language impairment (SLI) and 30 children with normal language (NL) in grades 3 through 7. Children with SLI suggested fewer types of strategies to resolve hypothetical conflicts than their NL peers. The groups did not differ in the number of strategy types used in…

Russon, Craig; And Others – Evaluation Review, 1995
Because of increased aid to developing nations, cross-cultural evaluation has become more common. Whether culture has an influence on evaluation was studied by simulating a study of Mexican and U.S. agricultural administrators. Results demonstrate the effects of cultural differences on evaluation. (SLD)

DeFalco, Susanne M.; And Others – Journal of Technology and Teacher Education, 1994
Describes a study that examined the accuracy and type of preservice teacher feedback to computer-simulated pupils. Accurate and inaccurate feedback when focusing on the accomplishments and deficiencies of the simulated pupils is examined, and patterns linking teachers' assessment of pupil performance with feedback during lesson interactions are…

Harrold, Marc W. – American Journal of Pharmaceutical Education, 1992
This paper describes and evaluates the use of a molecular modeling computer program (Alchemy II) in a pharmaceutical education program. Provided are the hardware requirements and basic program features as well as several examples of how this program and its features have been applied in the classroom. (GLR)

Kane, Michael T. – Evaluation and the Health Professions, 1992
A proposed model for the validity of measures of professional competence treats validation as the evaluation of inferences drawn from test scores, focusing on evaluation, generalization, and extrapolation. The model is used to indicate strengths and weaknesses of assessments of professional competence: observations of performance, simulations, and…

Wissick, Cheryl A.; And Others – Journal of Special Education Technology, 1992
An interactive videodisc-based simulation was used to train 3 students (ages 12-17) with moderate disabilities on locating and purchasing items in convenience store settings. The students improved in their effectiveness and efficiency of locating items in the simulated environment and showed some transfer of skills to natural environments. (JDD)

Maynes, Bill; And Others – Alberta Journal of Educational Research, 1992
Describes experiential learning instructional model and simulation for student principals. Describes interactive laser videodisc simulation. Reports preliminary findings about student principal learning from simulation. Examines learning approaches by unsuccessful and successful students and learning levels of model learners. Simulation's success…

Barron, Daniel D. – School Library Media Activities Monthly, 1992
Discussion of virtual reality and cyberspace focuses on applications in school media programs. Examples of fiction for adults and children dealing with these concepts, as well as related materials for educators, are suggested. The vast range of resources available to library media specialists through the Internet is also considered. (MES)

Schoenfeld, Alan H. – Journal for Research in Mathematics Education, 1992
Reacts to Ohlsson, Ernst, and Rees' paper by initially discussing the costs of methodology that utilizes artificial intelligence (AI) to model cognitive processes. Raises three concerns with the paper: insufficient clarification of the meaning of conceptual versus procedural understanding of base-10 subtraction; realism of the learning model; and…

Longford, N. T.; Muthen, B. O. – Psychometrika, 1992
A two-level model for factor analysis is defined, and formulas for a scoring algorithm for this model are derived. A simple noniterative method based on decomposition of total sums of the squares and cross-products is discussed and illustrated with simulated data and data from the Second International Mathematics Study. Borne, Isabelle; Girardot, Colette – Computers and Education, 1991
Describes the use of Smalltalk-80, a French programing language, to teach young children to program effectively using object-oriented concepts. Learning processes involving problem solving and programing are examined, the object-oriented environment is discussed, teacher training is described, and future work is suggested. Edelstein, David R.; Ruder, Henry J. – Medical Teacher, 1990
Complete medical interviews and physical examinations, performed on simulated patients by a class of interns, were videotaped and scored using a rating scale developed for the purpose. Findings show that the system can be used for feedback to both students and program administration concerning performance quality. (Author/MSE)

Kloot, Willem A. van der; Herk, Hester van – Multivariate Behavioral Research, 1991
Two sets of real sorting data from 50 college students are used to compare results of multidimensional scaling of raw co-occurrence frequencies or dissimilarity measures (D) and profile distances (delta) to determine which yields a better representation of the underlying structure of 2 sets of stimuli. Slight differences are discussed. (SLD)
