Pedhazur, Elazar J. – New York University Education Quarterly, 1973
The purpose of this paper is to outline and critically evaluate some major aspects of the research on teacher attitudes. (Author/RK)

Tegano, Deborah Walker; And Others – Perceptual and Motor Skills, 1983
An investigation of the relationship of hemispheric dominance (dichotic listening) and divergent thinking (Torrance Tests of Creative Thinking) with 27 preschool children indicates that divergent thinking is associated with right hemispheric dominance in children as young as four years. (Author/PN)

McCartt, Anne – College and Research Libraries, 1983
Using Social Judgment Analysis, tenure policies were derived for three academic librarians. These policies show wide discrepancies in the way the librarians evaluated hypothetical candidates for tenure. A candidate rating sheet is presented to show how the derived policies can be used to rate candidates more consistently (17 references). (EJS)

Tucker, Jane W.; McGaghie, William C. – Evaluation and the Health Professions, 1982
Multiple regression processes are employed to assess the effect of student age on preclinical medical school achievement in the context of eight other predictor variables. Results indicate that student age fails to contribute to the explanation of preclinical achievement after the influence of the other variables is taken into account. (Author/CM)

Kapes, Jerome T.; Baker, Glenn E. – Journal of Industrial Teacher Education, 1983
A study used a combination of cross-sectional and longitudinal designs to assess the variables of curriculum, intelligence, socioeconomic status, and Career Maturity Inventory scores. The mixing of a multiple regression analysis approach to analysis of covariance with a convergence design proved to be a viable method. (SK)

Bertram, Francis D.; And Others – Multiple Linear Regression Viewpoints, 1979
The purpose of this study was to use multivariate techniques in a federally-regulated validation study, and compare the results obtained from zero-order correlations and multiple correlations with the results obtained using factor scores and canonical correlation. The subjects consisted of 51 applicants for the position of patrolman. (Author/CTM)

Kundel, Susan E. – Adult Literacy and Basic Education, 1979
The American College Testing Program sought to determine whether metric education for adult consumers would result in more positive attitudes to metric conversion. Examining preopinion, pretest, posttest, post-opinion, and background data, the researchers found that simply teaching adults how to use the metric system does not significantly affect…

Picot, A. – American Journal of Physics, 1980
Discusses the use of pocket calculators for the computation of a line by the least-square-fitting method. The method is exemplified with a classical student experiment. (HM)

Walsh, John; Winne, Philip H. – Journal of Educational Psychology, 1980
Data in Yarworth and Gauthier's article on student self- concept and participation in school activities (EJ 189 606) were reanalyzed by Walsh and Winne (TM 505 375). Yarworth and Gauthier's criticism of the reanalysis (TM 505 376) is answered. (GDC)

Igra, Amnon – Sociological Methods and Research, 1980
Three methods of estimating a model of school effects are compared: ordinary least squares; an approach based on the analysis of covariance; and, a residualized input-output approach. Results are presented using a matrix algebra formulation, and advantages of the first two methods are considered. (Author/GK)

Morris, John D. – American Educational Research Journal, 1979
Computer-based Monte Carlo methods compared the predictive accuracy upon replication of regression of five complete and four incomplete factor score estimation methods. Prediction on incomplete factor scores showed better double cross-validated prediction accuracy than on complete scores. The unique unit-weighted factor score was superior among…

Lewis, Ernest; Leitner, Dennis – Multiple Linear Regression Viewpoints, 1979
Of 50 students taking a graduate course in multiple regression analysis at a particular university, they tended to use multiple regression in their dissertations. (Author/JKS)

Holloway, Richard L.; Robinson, Beatrice – Improving Human Performance Quarterly, 1979
Used locus of control, ability, sex, task selection, task structure, and recall in a regression model to predict affective response to type of instruction of 104 high school seniors. Results showed a main effect for recall, and interaction effects for recall x sex and recall x ability. References are listed. (Author/JEG)

Bentler, P. M.; Woodward, J. Arthur – Multivariate Behavioral Research Monographs Monograph, 1979
A statistical framework for investigating various regression approaches to linear composites is presented in this monograph. The consequences of variance approaches for psychometric theory are discussed. (A six-page bibliography is appended). (JKS)
