Purcupile, John C. – Journal of Engineering Education, 1972
Course objective was to enable students to practice engineering by realistically involving them in the solutions of unstructured problems similar to those they will encounter in their professional careers. Several past schemes are described and suggestions are presented to guide the potential user. (DF)

Strassenburg, Arnold A. – American Journal of Physics, 1972
A steady, detectable evolution in the direction of higher quality and greater diversity has taken place over the years. Important changes are underway in two areas: (1) the development of courses, curriculum, and instructional strategies; (2) the evaluation of the effectiveness of teaching and materials development activities. Includes…

Cody, R. D. – Journal of Geological Education, 1972
Presents the derivation of rotation and reflection matrix representation of symmetry operators as used in the initial discussion of crystal symmetry in elementary mineralogy at Iowa State University. Includes references and an appended list of matrix representations of the important crystallographic symmetry operators, excluding the trigonal and…

Onega, Ronald J. – Amer J Phys, 1969
Three problems in radioactive buildup and decay are presented and solved. Matrix algebra is used to solve the second problem. The third problem deals with flux depression and is solved by the use of differential equations. (LC)

Howard, Richard A. – Bioscience, 1970
Lack of documentation makes it very difficult to discover where species of cultivated plants may be found in the United States. Plead for compilation of "campus floras and herbarium collections. Need for a rational locator file of available plant materials. Lists and reviews present sources of information. Bibliography of campus floras. (EB)

Sears, Francis W. – Amer J Phys, 1969
Describes a working model of a Foucault pendulum at intermediate latitudes constructed of a steel drill rod with a steel ball attached at one end. The rod makes an angle of 45 degrees with the rotation axis of a horizontal turntable. The vibrating system is the same as that which led Foucault to construct his first gravity pendulum. (LC)

Blum, Ronald; Bork, Alfred M. – Amer J Phys, 1970
Surveys the types of computer usage in science education, both current and planned. The computer facilities are classified as interactive, semi-interactive or non-interactive. Interactive facilities make possible educational use of the computer administrator or producer of materials. The computer generally, and each mode in particular, is…
