Peer reviewedMaurer, Daphne; and Adams, Russell J. – Journal of Experimental Child Psychology, 1987
Two different methods which minimize achromatic cues were used to test the ability of one-month-olds to discriminate gray from broadband blue. Test data imply an improvement between birth and one month of age in the discrimination of gray from broadband blue. Possible physiological changes underlying this improvement are discussed. (Author/RWB)

Peer reviewedIrvin, Judith L. – Reading Teacher, 1986
Concludes that the Bieger Test is thorough in the diagnosis of visual discrimination deficits. (FL)

Peer reviewedUba, Anselm – Adolescence, 1985
Examines whether Nigerian adolescent girls are more likely to demonstrate superior performance in a task involving cultural differences in visual selective attention preference for color over form than boys are. Students (N=100) completed the Visual Selective Attention Color-Form Matching Experiment. Results confirmed the hypothesis. (BH)

Milekic, Slavko – 2003
Only a decade ago eye- and gaze-tracking technologies using cumbersome and expensive equipment were confined to university research labs. However, rapid technological advancements (increased processor speed, advanced digital video processing) and mass production have both lowered the cost and dramatically increased the efficacy of eye- and…

Henion, Karl E. – J Soc Psychol, 1970
Exposing subjects to pleasant and unpleasant pictures and odors separately and simultaneously, evaluative meanings were compared and correlations were derived. Very modest support was obtained for extending consistency theory to a limited case of cross-modalities." (DB)

Peer reviewedRixecker, H.; Hartje, W. – Journal of Clinical Psychology, 1980
Administered Kimura's Recurring-Figures-Test to 427 normal subjects from Germany. A Kuder-Richardson test reliability was obtained. T-scale norms are given for two subgroups of different educational levels. Results indicated that the RFT is a valid instrument for the assessment of nonverbal memory function, and has a high test reliability. (Author)

Peer reviewedNelson, Charles A.; And Others – Developmental Psychology, 1993
Used event-related potentials to examine infants' ability to form representations of stimuli presented in a haptic modality and to then recognize these stimuli as familiar when the stimuli were subsequently presented in a visual modality. Found that in certain conditions infants encoded the haptically familiarized object, then transferred their…

Peer reviewedCave, Kyle R.; And Others – Cognitive Psychology, 1994
Three experiments involving 107 adults who performed mental rotation tasks explored how location information is incorporated into image representation. Results suggest that image is coded retinotopically in image representations and that there is no spatiotropic transform in the early stages of visual processing. (SLD)
Descriptors: Abstract Reasoning, Adults, Coding, Cognitive Processes
Peer reviewedXu, Fei; Carey, Susan – Cognitive Psychology, 1996
Five experiments using the visual habitation paradigm with 158 infants demonstrated that these 10-month olds did not use property/kind information to establish representations of 2 numerically distinct objects, a finding that provided support for the object-first hypothesis. (SLD)

Yue, Jianping – Engineering Design Graphics Journal, 2007
Spatial visualization is a fundamental skill in technical graphics and engineering designs. From conventional multiview drawing to modern solid modeling using computer-aided design, visualization skills have always been essential for representing three-dimensional objects and assemblies. Researchers have developed various types of tests to measure…

Pollatsek, Alexander; Reichle, Erik D.; Rayner, Keith – Cognitive Psychology, 2006
This paper is simultaneously a test and refinement of the E-Z Reader model and an exploration of the interrelationship between visual and language processing and eye-movements in reading. Our modeling indicates that the assumption that words in text are processed serially by skilled readers is a viable and attractive hypothesis, as it accounts not…

Zimowski, Michele F.; Wothke, Werner – 1986
Two processing abilities used to solve spatial problems are examined: (1) the analog ability of structural visualization; and (2) the non-analog ability of verbal analytic reasoning. The distinction is based on an evaluation of information processing theory and a review of process-oriented studies of individual differences. Criteria are presented…

Peer reviewedYuille, John C. – Journal of Experimental Child Psychology, 1974
An experiment is reported in which connective recall, as well as noun recall, was obtained in a pair-associate learning, syntactic facilitation paradigm. Results were interpreted as consistent with the hypothesis that experimenter-supplied verb links facilitate noun pair learning by serving an instructional role, indicating to the subject how a…

Peer reviewedPosnansky, Carla J. – Journal of Experimental Child Psychology, 1974
Three studies investigated both serial learning (SL) and retention processes among first through sixth graders. Pictorial serial list items improved SL performance only for second, third, and fourth graders, while fifth graders performed better with verbal materials and sixth-grade performance was comparable in both presentation modes. (Author/CS)

Vandenberg, S. G. – 1973
Spatial visualization is not yet clearly understood. Some researchers have concluded that two factors or abilities are involved, spatial orientation and spatial visualization. Different definitions and different tests have been proposed for these two abilities. Several studies indicate that women generally perform more poorly on spatial tests than…
