Anderson, Owen T.; Artman, Robert A. – American Journal of Physics, 1972
The program employed cassette tape recorders for problem solving, requirement of a high level of mastery (75 percent) and no final exams. Essentially all students were able to achieve the specified mastery level and retain that competence over an extended period of time, accompanied by more positive attitudes toward the course. (DF)

Tyler, Charles E. – Amer J Phys, 1969
Describes an inexpensive, easily constructed device for demonstrating that the speed of light is finite, and for measuring its value. The main components are gallium arsenide light emitting diodes, a light pulser, transistors, and an oscilloscope. Detailed instructions of procedure and experimental results are given. (LC)

McDonald, Perry F. – American Journal of Physics, 1972
Brief descriptions of several of the laboratory experiments which have been incorporated into an acoustics course for music majors. Includes vibratory motion and sound generation, nature, speed, and pitch of sound, spectrum analysis and electronic synthesis of musical sound and some conventional sound experiments. (Author/TS)

Cutchins, Malcolm A. – Journal of Engineering Education, 1971
Three methods of studying motion are described. A wind tunnel is utilized in demonstrating flutter. Computer graphics with an oscilloscope are used to investigate the natural modes of vibration and to track the simulated motion of missiles. (TS)

Boyer, R.; Fortin, E. – American Journal of Physics, 1972
Describes an undergraduate optics laboratory experiment to verify the law of intensity in the Fesnel diffraction of a thin wire. A gas laser as light source and a photocell as detector scan the diffraction pattern. The agreement with the theoretical pattern is remarkably good. (Author/TS)
