In examining response style effects on various commonly used fixed-response formats, Likert-type formats were relatively consistently affected regardless of the number of format categories. Nonanchored numbers were less affected. Across types, strong correlations for the linear formats and human faces made their use problematic. (Author/CM)

A cross-year group and longitudinal study was conducted to investigate the influence of race on friendship preferences of pupils in a multi-racial, secondary school in Britain. Results indicate that students were more friendly to classmates of the same sex, regardless of race, than to classmates of the same race but other sex. (Author/AM)

Describes a study which examined how subject matter, color, and degree of realism influence preferences for paintings of subjects in grades 3, 5, 7, 11, and college. Describes a study that investigated the relationship of task difficulty to trainable mentally retarded students' interest in four art activities and art products resulting from these activities. A Spearman Rank Correlation procedure revealed a negative correlation between task difficulty and subject's interest in art activities and products. (AM)
