The University of California at Los Angeles has initiated an interdisciplinary doctoral program in Environmental Science and Engineering (ESE). It includes an academic program encompassing courses in earth sciences, biology, engineering, chemistry, and the social sciences, as well as a 1 1/2-2 year off-campus internship. (LBH)

Increasingly society holds the engineer responsible for the management and control of the physical environment. Courses in the Social Aspects of Engineering are being developed to direct students towards a concern for the societal impact of the engineer's work. A survey of computer education in engineering colleges was conducted in 1981 and the results reported in EJ 287 351. A follow-up survey conducted in 1984 asked many of the same questions to identify trends. Results of this survey with comparisons to the 1981 survey are presented and discussed. (JN)
