Kuntzleman, Thomas S.; Jacobson, Erik C. – Journal of Chemical Education, 2016
A very simple protocol for teaching Beer's Law and absorption spectrophotometry using a smart phone is described. Materials commonly found in high school chemistry laboratories or even around the house may be used. Data collection and analysis is quick and easy. Despite the simple nature of the experiment, excellent results can be achieved.

Heras, María; Ruiz-Mallén, Isabel; Gallois, Sandrine – International Journal of Science Education, 2020
Although efforts are being made to bring science closer to secondary school students, science is still mostly perceived within stereotypic frameworks, hindering students' identification with it. In this paper, we claim the role that arts-based approaches can play in science education to break these biased views and understandings and generate a…

Brandon, Drew T. – Journal of Chemical Education, 2020
A flipped chemistry class for middle school education majors was "unflipped" during the conversion from in-person to online-only instruction during the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. The process balanced the best practices of online education with practicality due to the short time frame. Successes and failures in the conversion…

Héraud, Jean-Loup; Lautesse, Philippe; Ferlin, Fabrice; Chabot, Hugues – Science & Education, 2017
Our work extends a previous study of epistemological presuppositions in teaching quantum physics in upper scientific secondary school in France. Here, the problematic reference of quantum theory's concepts is treated at the ontological level (the counterintuitive nature of quantum objects). We consider the approach of using narratives describing…
