Houze, R. Neal; Simon, Rebecca J. – Engineering Education, 1981
Presents strategies for planning a successful cooperative education experience. The potential of a cooperative education program can be realized only if the expectations and responsibilities of the industry, the university and the students are recognized and realistically balanced. (Author/WB)
Descriptors: Cooperative Education, Engineering Education, Field Experience Programs, Higher Education
Flower, K. W.; Craft, W. J. – Engineering Education, 1981
Describes the use of computer assisted instruction at North Carolina Agriculture and Technical State University in freshman and remedial mathematics to cut down high attrition rates and weed out quickly the students who can't adapt to the vigors of engineering course work. (Author/DS)
Descriptors: College Science, Computer Assisted Instruction, Course Descriptions, Engineering Education
Peer reviewedSymons, William Benjamin; Wilson, Richard H. – Journal of the American Association of Teacher Educators in Agriculture, 1979
This study was conducted to determine if an operational performance evaluation was valid and feasible for an area of small engine instruction. Four classes were evaluated using both a pencil-and-paper test and an operational performance test. One of the findings was that a positive relationship exists between student scores on the two tests. (LRA)
Descriptors: Agricultural Education, Agricultural Engineering, Comparative Analysis, Educational Testing
Peer reviewedLawrence, Peter – Higher Education Review, 1979
The status, function, and education of engineers in Britain and West Germany are compared. Status of the German engineer, engineering education in Germany, the engineer and German society, and the overachieving engineer are discussed. (Author/MLW)
Descriptors: Academic Achievement, Achievement, Economic Factors, Education Work Relationship
Peer reviewedDeshpande, Pradeep B.; And Others – Chemical Engineering Education, 1980
Describes laboratory experiments of a chemistry course on advanced process control. The equipment for the process around which these experiments were developed by the University of Louisville was constructed from data provided by Exxon Oil Company. (HM)
Descriptors: Chemistry, College Science, Curriculum Development, Engineering Education
Peer reviewedHenig, Robin Marantz – BioScience, 1979
Presents details of a report by the Government Accounting Office (GAO) to Presidential Science Adviser Frank Press on science and engineering manpower trends and needs. Discusses trends and implications relating to the proportion of faculty members at doctorate granting institutions who qualify as young scientists. (BT)
Descriptors: Doctoral Degrees, Employment Opportunities, Engineering, Federal Government
Peer reviewedWhite, R. E.; Hall, K. R. – Chemical Engineering Education, 1979
Describes activities of the Chemical Engineering Department at the Agriculture and Mechanical University (A&M) of Texas. Brief history of Texas (A&M) University's graduate and undergraduate programs, research efforts and the foreseeable future of the department are also included. (HM)
Descriptors: Chemical Industry, Chemistry, College Science, Engineering Education
Woods, Donald R.; And Others – Engineering Education, 1979

Chenoweth, Karin – Black Issues in Higher Education, 1997
A recent Educational Testing Service (ETS) study drawing on several databases found historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs) do a better job than traditionally white institutions (TWIs) in steering African Americans into engineering and the hard sciences and preparing them for graduate study. The study also revealed patterns in student…
