Peer reviewedLong, Joe C.; And Others – Journal of Research in Science Teaching, 1981
Measured the effects of three variations in the use of diagnostic-prescriptive (DP) teaching on the cognitive and affective biology achievement of high school students (N=93). Variations included: (1) no DP assistance; (2) teacher-managed DP; and (3) student-managed DP. Results favor DP approaches. (Author/JN)

Peer reviewedPeterson, Rita W.; Carlson, Gaylen R. – Science Education, 1979
This issue contains a summary of research in science education for the year 1977. The review is organized into four major parts. These are the overview, survey research, experimental research and conclusions. (HM)
Descriptors: Achievement, Attitudes, Cognitive Development, Educational Assessment
Peer reviewedKarplus, Robert – European Journal of Science Education, 1979
Investigates how the concept of a mathematical function is applied in science. The procedures by which 400 students ranging in age from 11 to 18 years deal spontaneously with data pairs that describe a continuous functional relationship are identified. (HM)
Descriptors: Cognitive Development, Concept Formation, Educational Research, Educational Strategies
Peer reviewedCarter, Jack L. – BioScience, 1979
The role of the biology teacher in American schools and colleges is discussed with regard to the social, political, and economic implications of new discoveries in science. Controversial ethical issues related to teaching human genetics are presented. (SA)

Peer reviewedSullivan, Raymond J. – Science Education, 1979
The degree of self-expressed student interest in a variety of specific science topics was investigated, and changes in these interests across grade levels were determined. Data were collected from 13,401 students in grades 1-8 in 12 school systems in ten states. (HM)
Descriptors: Educational Research, Elementary School Science, Elementary Secondary Education, Junior High School Students
Peer reviewedBoxie, Paula; Maring, Gerald H. – Teacher Educator, 2002
Investigated how literacy strategies embedded in a Web-based project would enhance middle school science students' writing performance. Preservice and inservice teachers collaborated to create rich, technology-supported learning environments. Students chose topics; researched, analyzed, and synthesized data; and wrote essays. Students were…
