Schenck, Jeb – Journal of Adult Education, 2001
An instrument measuring visual memory span in long-term memory was tested on 239 adults using pictures of common objects. Correlations were found between the number of images recalled and age, level of education, level of income, intelligence, sex, and social activity. (Contains 21 references.) (Author/JOW)

Mohler, James L. – Journal of Computing in Higher Education, 2001
Discusses issues related to delivering spatially oriented data to the general public, since communication through computer graphics should be accessible to the masses as well as to specialists. The second half of the paper describes the Purdue University Virtual Visit, a resource being used for visualization and communication at Purdue University…

Ayres, Joe – Communication Reports, 1995
Compares guided visualization (involving guided imagery) with self-constructed imagery (involving developing one's own visualization script). Finds no differences between guided visualization and self-constructed visualization in terms of reducing communication apprehension or negative thinking, but finds both procedures superior to no treatment…

McLeay, Heather; Piggins, David – Educational Studies in Mathematics, 1996
Spatial tests involving the comparison of diagrams of interlaced ropes or knots at varying orientations were given to (n=21) subjects, mostly English college undergraduates, to determine an ordering in terms of complexity of tasks involving the mental manipulation of the knots. Certain knot shapes were processed faster than others and greater…

Brown, Michael H. – Journal of Humanistic Education and Development, 1997
States that the techniques of mental imagery can help adult survivors of childhood sexual abuse access the inner wisdom necessary to identify, understand, and creatively address issues from the past and develop new and healthier patterns of thinking and behaving. Documents the innovative ways psychosynthesis uses mental imagery with this client…

Slater, Roberta B.; Dwyer, Francis M. – International Journal of Instructional Media, 1996
A study of 62 undergraduates assigned to four instructional treatments receiving variations on interactive questioning strategies with feedback (control, input, processing, output) found insignificant differences in achievement. Concluded that questioning strategies used in this study were not effective in enhancing the effectiveness of visualized…

Westermann, Thomas – International Journal of Computer Algebra in Mathematics Education, 2001
Demonstrates the principal concept and the application of MAPLE in mathematical education in various examples. Discusses lengthy and abstract topics like the convergence of Fourier series to a given function, performs the visualization of the wave equation in the case of a vibrating string, and computes the oscillations of an idealized skyscraper…

Krason, Katarzyna; Szafraniec, Grazyna – Early Child Development and Care, 1999
Presents a new authorship method of child therapy based on visualization through motion. Maintains that this method stimulates motor development and musical receptiveness, and promotes personality development. Suggests that improvised movement to music facilitates the projection mechanism and that directed movement starts the channeling phase.…

Inelmen, Erol – European Journal of Engineering Education, 2001
Aims to understand the problems that students face in developing the design skills that they will need in their future careers during the Engineering Orientation course in freshman year. The 'visual thinking' technique in the course enhanced understanding and motivation to participate in discussions. (Author/ASK)

Riejos, Ana M. Roldan; Mansilla, Paloma, Ubeda; Castillejos, Ana M. Martin – European Journal of Engineering Education, 2001
Values the use of a contextualized poster in which the images are more important than the actual words. Confirms this through an analysis of a questionnaire handed out to a sample of 'English for Specific Purposes' students. Addresses the pedagogical implications that the use of a poster has proved to have with a multidisciplinary group of…

Funk, Roger L. – Technology Teacher, 2004
This article addresses how to help students develop an aptitude for seeing relationships between elements and puzzling out new forms in doing so. Four different approaches are presented. Each illustrates a way that industrial designers work in considering the form of a product. A classroom activity is included.

Piburn, Michael D.; Reynolds, Stephen J.; McAuliffe, Carla; Leedy, Debra E.; Birk, James P.; Johnson, Julia K. – International Journal of Science Education, 2005
Among the sciences, the practice of geology is especially visual. To assess the role of spatial ability in learning geology, we designed an experiment using: (1) web-based versions of spatial visualization tests, (2) a geospatial test, and (3) multimedia instructional modules built around QuickTime Virtual Reality movies. Students in control and…

Parthasarathy, Vijay; Stone, Maureen; Prince, Jerry L. – Clinical Linguistics & Phonetics, 2005
Analyzing the motion of the human tongue surface provides valuable information about speech and swallowing. One method to analyse this motion is to acquire two-dimensional ultrasound images and extract the tongue surface contours from them. Quantitative and statistical analysis of these extracted contours is made difficult because of the absence…
