Students from two medicine rotations were assigned to experimental and control groups. Instruction was the same except that the control group was assigned required readings. The effects of scheduled intern rotations on the cost and quality of inpatient care at a teaching hospital were studied for 1,705 rotation patients and 3,141 no-rotation patients.
