In this study, 60 pairs of Ss were randomly selected and individually matched on age, sex, grade equivalence, and birth order. The seven null hypotheses dealt with culture, sex, birth order, and their interactions. The main self-rating scales employed were the IPAT Anxiety Scale and the Tennessee Self Concept Scale. Examines several subtypes of the verbal sequency NP-VP1-VP2 in Chinese, especially those involving descriptions of human action, directed motion, and instrumental functions, and finds that these could be subsumed under the heading of "purposive clauses."
