Peer reviewedCutietta, Robert A.; And Others – Bulletin of the Council for Research in Music Education, 1989
Reports on a study that examined noise-induced hearing loss (NIHL) among school band directors. Finds that 41 percent of band directors in the sample had characteristic NIHL curves indicating that their experience as band directors played a role in the hearing loss. Recommends further study into the causes of NIHL among school band directors. (LS)

Peer reviewedGazzaniga, Michael S. – Science, 1989
This article reviews the work on patients who have undergone partial or complete brain bisection and addresses the concept of modularity from three different perspectives: (1) structure-function correlations; (2) modular components of cognitive processes; and (3) integration of modular processes. Several brain pictures and diagrams are presented.…

Peer reviewedWhitley, Jim D.; Nyberg, Kenneth – Physician and Sportsmedicine, 1988
Findings from a survey of 92 American medical school curriculums suggest that physicians may be unprepared to offer effective counseling on exercise. The survey showed that 67 percent of schools had no formal instruction in exercise medicine. A required course emphasizing cardiorespiratory fitness is recommended. (IAH)
