Two spatial visualization tests were administered to 142 students before and after two years of college study. Students majoring in the humanities and social sciences improved less than those majoring in mathematics and the physical sciences. Outdoor education facilitates the use of both cerebral hemispheres. The right side, which is often ignored in traditional education, is the location of intuitive, imaginative, and metaphoric thinking and can be used in conjunction with the left side, the base of logical and analytic thought. (CJ)
