Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Inc., New York, NY. – 1972
This dictionary, prepared by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Inc. (IEEE), defines 13,000 technical words from every area of electrical and electronics engineering. The dictionary contains hundreds of new terms as well as revisions of earlier ones. Each definition is an official standard of IEEE. The definitions are arranged…

Peer reviewedGross, Walter E. – Physics Education, 1972
A study of the extent to which Henry was affiliated with the Society and its influence on his work including his evolving relationship with the Society in the scope of the changing nature of American scientific institutions. (DF)

Rothman, Milton A. – Phys Teacher, 1970
Using the Newtonian relationship F equal MA, the author discusses three interpretations of the equation: (1) the engineering approach, (2) the Machian "field approach, and (3) the Newtonian approach as used by Arons. Contends that there are three types of definitions: conceptual, behavioral, and operational. Author illustrates these…

Wheatley, John D.; Van Till, Howard J. – Phys Teacher, 1970
Discusses the definition of temperature and the concept of order in non-mathematical terms. Describes the cooling techniques necessary in low temperature physics research, including magnetic cooling, the use of the Pomeranchuk Effect, and dilution refrigeration. Outlines the types of phenomena observed in matter within various temperature ranges…

Peer reviewedBiernson, George – American Journal of Physics, 1972
The arrangement of colors in Newton's color circle suggests that it was derived from paint mixtures, not light mixtures. If this is true it may be concluded that what Newton called indigo represents violet in modern terminology, and what he called violet represents purple. (Author/TS)

Peer reviewedElton, Charles F.; Rodgers, Samuel A. – Science, 1971
Objective variables provided a good approximation of the faculty ratings of physics graduate programs reported in Cartter's Assessment of Quality in Graduate Education published in 1966. Stepwise multiple discrimination and spatial configuration analysis techniques were used. (AL)

Russell, B. R. – Amer J Phys, 1969
The fundamental concepts of holography are explained using elementary wave ideas. Discusses wavefront reconstruction and contrast in hemigraphic images. The consequence of recording only the intensity at a given surface and using an oblique reference wave is shown to be an incomplete reconstruction resulting in image of low contrast. (LC)
