Foellinger, David B.; Trabasso, Tom – Child Development, 1977
The ability to recall and organize actions was studied in a sample of 80 children ranging in age from 5 to 11 years. Eight different auditory or visual commands were successively presented for 10 trials in each modality in a free-recall task. (Author/JMB)

Tyrrell, Donald J. – Child Development, 1977
Analysis of 40 first-grade children's performance on two discrimination learning problems revealed that children do transfer dimensional information between the visual and tactual modalities. (Author/JMB)

Dean, Raymond S.; And Others – Contemporary Educational Psychology, 1988
The effects of visual and auditory modes of input on long-term memory were examined in two experiments, each with 40 and 80 undergraduates, respectively. In both experiments, visual stimulus attributes were a more salient dimension than were auditory features in the long-term encoding and retrieval process. (SLD)

Kirby, John R.; And Others – Contemporary Educational Psychology, 1988
A questionnaire to assess verbal and visual learning styles was developed based on the Verbalizer-Visualizer Questionnaire and analyzed, using a total of 477 college students in three studies. The three scales developed had adequate reliability and construct validity. The verbal learning style was most strongly correlated with verbal ability, but…

Samples, Bob; Hammond, Bill – Science Teacher, 1985
Discusses learning modalities and learning styles in science education. Learning modalities characterize the way the brain takes in information (input) and restructures/expresses the information (output). Learning styles are ways that information is processed once it is obtained. Examples (including Kolb's "Learning-Style Inventory") are included.…

Rollins, Howard A. – Journal of Experimental Psychology, 1972
Results suggest that Ss store some of the auditory and visual information in modality-dependent memory systems and that storage order determines recall accuracy. (Author)
