Friedman, Joyce – 1968
The papers in this volume describe computer runs with six different transformational grammars, in each case using the computer system for transformational grammar described in AL 002 220. They are collected as examples which, it is hoped, will encourage other linguistics to use the system. The motivation for the first three projects described was…

Groen, Guy J. – 1974
This paper presents the results of three experiments studying routine problem-solving tasks in simple addition and subtraction. Indications are that children tend to solve such problems by internalized counting procedures which may be learned independently as a consequence of practice in problem solving. Brief descriptions of exploratory studies…

Cox, Linda S. – 1974
Five reports from a 2-year study are presented. Frequencies and descriptions of systematic errors in the four algorithms in arithmetic were studied in upper-middle income, regular, and special education classrooms involving 744 children. Children were screened for adequate knowledge of basic facts and for receiving prior instruction on the…

Dade County Public Schools, Miami, FL. – 1971
This guidebook, which sets minimum course content, is designed for the student who has acquired basic computational skills with non-negative rational numbers. The booklet covers computation skills with decimals. General goals and performance objectives, a course outline, teaching strategies, and sample test items are included. The quin is based on…

Weaver, J. Fred; Suydam, Marilyn N. – 1972
This monograph focuses on the influence of meaning theory on elementary school mathematics programs and on mathematics instruction. Theories of arithmetic instruction up through 1935 are described, and the philosophy of meaning theory, contributions and discussions by mathematics educators, and applications to actual instruction are delineated for…

Waters, William M., Jr.; Blakeway, Edward G. – School Science and Mathematics, 1976
A program in BASIC which decomposes fractions is provided. Activities related to student use of the program are listed. (SD)

Morley, Arthur – Mathematics Teaching, 1978
Described are two methods of calculating developed by the Dutch WISKOBAS Project: addition and subtraction with a loop abacus and multiplication using a grid model. (MP)

Remillard, Wilfred J. – American Journal of Physics, 1978
Studies the relationship between Eulerian and Lagrangian coordinate systems with the help of computer plots of variables such as density and particle displacement. Gives examples which illustrate the differences in the shape of a traveling wave as seen by observers in the two systems. (Author/GA)

Ter Heege, Hans – Educational Studies in Mathematics, 1978
The focus is upon the introduction of multiplication within the framework of an algorithm program. Analysis of some observations of student solutions to multiplication problems is included. (MN)

Cohen, Don – Mathematics Teaching, 1976
Upper elementary school students created their own algorithms for finding products of whole numbers. The algorithms were similar to familiar ones for finding products involving 9 and 11. (SD)

Rennie, Robert R.; Villegas, C. – Journal of Multivariate Analysis, 1976
An asymptotic theory is developed for a new time series model introduced in TM 502 289. An algorithm for computing estimates of the parameters of this time series model is given, and it is shown that these estimators are asymptotically efficient in that they have the same asymptotic distribution as the maximum likelihood estimators. Hambleton, Ronald K. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1987
This paper presents an algorithm for determining the number of items to measure each objective in a criterion-referenced test when testing time is fixed and when the objectives vary in their levels of importance, reliability, and validity. Results of four special applications of the algorithm are presented. (BS)

He, Chunpei; Pao, Miranda Lee – Information Processing and Management, 1986
Discusses various strategies for assessing importance of journals for acquisition; describes a discipline-specific selection algorithm which uses journal citation data to identify journals that contribute to a discipline's research foundation as well as those used for professional practice; and reports on two studies which demonstrated the…
